Think I have carpet beetles - help!

Ok, after much googling, I think I have varied carpet beetles in my flat. I have become a woman possessed, pulling out furniture, hoovering, dettoling etc...... I've also contacted my managing agents about getting rid of a pigeon nest that is in the gutter above my bay window.

My problem is, I can't find a source of infestation, which is the first thing all the websites tell you to do. They are only in my living room and keep appearing on the wall near the window and on the windowsill. My living room has bare floorboards, which aren't sealed, and there is loft insulation (synthetic fibres) underneath - could they be breeding in that? If so, I'm fecked! Im hoping the bird's nest is the cuprit because my flat is full of nooks and crannies which are going to be difficult to completely clean. I haven't found any larvae, only adult bugs.

Any tips would be appreciated!

can you put down incecticide powder down?....that should sort it ,but you need to keep kids and pets away from it.

Could, but don't know where to start, that's the problem. I'm guessing all round the egdes of the room? I have a cat though, so that might not be a good idea. Plus a five week old baby, although he can't get near it of course.

Little buggers (the beetles that is!)

id shove it down where your finding them.brush it into the cracks!, keep the cat out the room to be safe...or put the stuff cats hate (think its called stayoff, smells very orange)down too.are you sure that its carpet beetles?.i agree that the pigion nest is probably the source of your problem, pigions just attract bugs, they seem to love the droppings.check your window. are the bugs getting in via a small hole or vent? or if you've got the window open.citronella candle or oil might keep them out.. congrats on the baby!

Yeah, pretty sure that's what they are. Luckily I am not the classiest of ladies so nearly everything I own is synthetic so nothing for the buggers to eat.

I wish I could see where they're coming from. I keep looking round the room like a hawk and then one will just appear on the wall - they don't move that quickly, so you'd think I'd notice them before they reach an area so far out in the open it's nowhere near any possible entry point. gah!

get a spray then! ...as for nothing for them to eat.... i wouldnt be so sure....watch your clothes! ..perhaps theyre inside the walls ,and thats why you cant see where theyre coming up from.they'd just come out any gap then.

I had a very persistent infestation last year. Apart from being scrupulously clean, I used a spray that I got from the vet for when the cat once had fleas .

It absolutely did for them (albeit a lingering death ) and as the spray is long lasting on surfaces (6months iirc) will hopefully have broken the cycle. I intend to respray soon just in case as I'm dubious about the next door flat's hygiene practices so I'm not sure just being clean is enough for me.

I sprayed all around rooms and any cracks I could see, doorways etc and especially the wall adjoining manky next door.

hadn't thought of flea spray - will give that a go, there's some in the cupboard. Might just wait until the baby isn't in the room though!!

We have this stuff in the gaps between the floorboards. Would probably help if they're coming from underneath the floor?
