Our house is so dusty, it's like we live in the desert.

We moved into a new build house 1st phase when the place was just a buiding site. As a result, the house is always full of dust. Relatives came over the other day when it was sunny and plonked down on our fabric couch and the dust ball that came off it was a complete embarrassment. Looked even worse cos the dust fluttered in the beams of sunlight streaming in the window for the rest of the day...

I have a Henry hoover and hoover the couch/floor/curtains as often as I can but not every day (just the floor every day and a quick once over the couch...)

I also use Pledge and a duster to do the surfaces but the place just always seems to be completely covered in dust.

Help please... I am a completely crap housewife...

MrsCravendale...we must live on the same estate!! I'm in a phase 1 and the dust, like you say is awful. I've even mentioned this to my neighbours and they agree. I get so embarrassed when I have visitors in the afternoon with the sunlight streaming through the windows and i've tried everything to minimise the dust with little success. I have a hepa filter dyson and that doesn't make any difference at all. I've bought an air purifier but again no difference. I have a fabric sofa and have taken the cushions out into the garden to give them a good pummeling to rid them of dust and the same with my livingroon rug. Nothing I have tried has worked!

So although I have no advice to give I share in your plight and will watch this thread with interest

I feel the same about mine

I have a leather couch so i don't get the dust problem on that anymore but i know what you mean. I also have a Henry, maybe its his fault

Mine isn't a new house though its a boring 1930's but it still gets so dusty.

Have you tried damp dusting instead of polishing, i try and do that a couple of times a week. I also hoover everyday but it helps keep the dust down i think.

Do you have carpets or wood/laminate? I have wood floors mainly and this has helped aswell, although the dust does gather in corners but it is easier to hoover up and then mop.

Well, if we live in the same estate, our neighbours must be at the windows going "ooooh look... the crazy ladies are out banging their cushions again" lol. Pummelling the couch cushions in the back garden made no difference either!

We have carpets throughout the house. Henry was blocked and I removed the disgusting matted hairball which means he is working a bit better but his silly grin bugs the hell out of me when the house is still full of dust! Maybe he's stoned, hence me draggin him round the house furiously hoovering every square inch doesn't make any difference since he's probably not sucking any dust n just smirking goofily at my vain attempts!

Hello! I had an extension built last year and my house remodelled, all apart from two rooms were affected. The ceilings were pulled down and you could not imagine the dirt and dust that was around. The builders had the front door open and it looked like smoke blowing out of it!!

Anyway, I then had the same problem as both of you ladies!! I damp dusted for about 2 months and finally started to see a difference. It takes ages for the dust to go away, but it does get better. It is demoralising to dust only for it to be back 5 minutes later - but keep doing what you are doing, try damp dusting too and you will get there!! Good luck

i have had the builders in and ewww it is never ending

if it is as you describe - have you tried spraying the room with fine mist of water from a water sprayer

then leave for a couple of hours then dust and vacuum

i use damp flannels and do a lot of wet wiping

upagumtree · 25/03/2009 23:14

I damp dust everyday sometimes twice daily. We have been in our house for almost two years now and it's no better despite the damp dusting. Haven't tried the water sprayer thingy though. I'll do that tomorrow...thanks.

Lol@stoned henry

Thanks for the replies. Damp dusting - never really tried that so will give it a go in place of the regular "special catch the dust" cloth that doesnt work!!!

Thanks again. Nice to know I aint alone.
