Plants indoors - good interior design statement?

I am thinking it might be nice to have a bit of foliage indoors but I'm not sure how to 'do' it.

Do you have them? Where? How many? Which plants? Is it a 'good' look?

I'd love to hear your ideas before I head of to the garden center. (I have already had a trip to Homebase but came away uninspired.)

i have peace lilies, which are very easy to look after & very good for us - as in environmentally friendly.

SPider plants are also good. weeping figs look good, but are tempermental. I have a huge rounded waxy leave plant, which seems to survive allsorts, but not sure what it's called !

Nooo to spide palnts.Dreary govt. office plant (usually with miserable middle aged secretary called June watering them)

great Feng Shui, good for oxygenating the place at night - dunno about interior design.

I favour asparagus ferns as they are quite hard to kill and their leaves/needles take ages to go brown - they have great root storage capacity for water. There are several different types of asparagus fern - the flat "leaf" one is the worst one to keep; the foxtail, this one or this one are much better (and more stylish imho!)

No green fingers here so I am liking the asparagus ferns. I love spider plants especially when they have babies but agree that they are too 'officey'.

I'll have to investigate peace lilies.

Thanks for the replies, I was beginning to wonder what the name for a complete non-starter thread was .

ahh, but the officey spider plants are dreary, because they are in horrible pots & all overgrown. Keep them nice by cutting off the 'babies' & keep them watered to keep them green
