Right!! THATS IT im not spending another penny i don't need to on food. But i want to eat HEALTHY, TASTY food, but its gotta be cheap as chips.

I struggled in tesco today to get four meals for £20, no essentials in that lot, just food for meals and a pint of milk. I got a chicken, some tuna (tinned) a pack of seasonal veg (carrots, potato and parsnips) sausages and diced beef for a pie, oh and some bramley apples.

I will never stretch that for a week (luckily i wont have to) but our shopping usually comes in between £80-£100 and im like where does it all go. I don't buy processed foods, i cook from scratch, but its mostly meat and veg or something

HELP!!!!! Money saving tips wanted, i want my shopping bill down to £50 a week including cleaning stuff and bog roll. There is me, DP, DD (aged 3) and a small dog.

Pruners - the large veg box is listed as

valor potatoes UK
nante carrots UK
onions NL
leeks UK
green cabbage UK
cauliflower UK
salad pack UK
portabello mushrooms UK
asparagus ES
red batavia lettuce FR
calabrese ES
courgettes ES

So I'm guessing not

Tommy - That book was written by a MNer i think?

I have a Riverford Box ever 2 weeks and it does my fine for veg but i have to stock up on friut.

All the Farm Shops round here are really expensive for anything that isn't fruit of Veg. Luckily in DP's job he gets lots of freebes so we get a lovely cake or a tray of Brownies that should have cost about £8 for FS but cost us nothing!

I use the market sometimes for F&V as its cheap but if ind it doesn't last to long especially if the seller is lobbing them about the stall.

If you buy cheese in a block, try grating it into a tupperware box with a lid and keeping it in the fridge as soon as you get it, i find it lasts longer becuase people don't use as much.

Pruners, i get really frustrated by this, the whole trendiness of it all means that farm shops etc no longer are cheap places to buy food, rather the haunts of the local trendies pulling up in their 4x4s

I do have a local grocers that is pretty cheap, but its very hit and miss in there, as in, the veg is sometimes a bit old and manky - but its worth going into for the odd gem. But will have expensive stuff too and they dont price very clear, i have put stuff back before now

we have alot like that too, but we did drive through the village's until we found one that doesnt cost a fortune and the fruit and veg are local and really fresh

I agree with meal planning! Definately the way forward. I shop online, look whats on offer then plan around it e.g tortilla wraps on offer, make a chilli and wrap up in tortillas cover in cheese and bake, later in weel have tuna filled wraps.
Fish Pie
Cod and haddock(one smoked) fillet goes a long way with a few boiled eggs, parsley and peas in creme fraiche with mash on top and then into oven.
Lean corned beef hash
cube potatoes (lots) boil with oxo cubes and seasoning mix in with corned beef and put under grill to crisp up, serve with veggies or beans! Omlettes with veggies, Mince and Mash, toad in the hole

If you shop online go through www.mysupermarket.com and in put your list and it will tell you which supermarket your shop is cheaper with, then you click through and the system sends your order to the site.
