I'm talking about inside the spout where you flip it up and down- dt's all have black mould in

And for anyone who says to clean them straight away after every use, well sometimes they get left in the bottom of the pram and stuff...yes it is a bit gross, but you try having twins.

No dishwasher either.

Get new ones.

Mould is really bad for transmitting nasties.

Also, when you wash them, dry them thouroughly too.

Do you twist the spout off when you clean them?

Iklboo · 17/03/2009 13:22

Erm..how about soaking them in a solution of Steradent (denture cleaning tablets) and then rinsing through a few times with hot water? Works on tea spoons

yomellamoHelly · 17/03/2009 13:24

Would second getting new ones. Then resolve to cleaning once a day (at some point) and doing spout with a brush of some description. I also fill mine with boiling water once a day to counteract the lost in pram and forgotten thing (otherwise I find they start to smell).

CMOTdibbler · 17/03/2009 13:25

Soak in Milton or similar sterilising tabs/liquid - it's great for killing off mould in bath toys too

Iklboo · 17/03/2009 13:26

DH once left some chocolate milk in an old cup of DS's and left it on the side in the kitchen kind of half hidden.
I discovered it, thought 'hello, what's this' and twisted the lid off...

Rancid evil smelly chocolate lifeform milk geysered out of it, hit the ceiling, walls, bloody everywhere.

There are still stains on the ceiling to this day

nickytwotimes · 17/03/2009 13:26

I don't want to be alarmist, but mould is bad

And I am not a clean freak - ds eats stuff off the floor!

nickytwotimes · 17/03/2009 13:28

Bollocks, link hasn't worked properly!
Will try again.

breadandroses · 17/03/2009 13:30

Christ, brush won't go down (it's the flip top small cup kind).

I'll try milton, if they still look bad will get new.

Thanks

I used to poke down into the spout (from the inside) with a cocktail stick covered in a bit of tissue.

breadandroses · 17/03/2009 13:44

Bloody hell Blu I'm not doing that, they'll just have to learn to drink from normal cups.

How is BoyBlu's leg?

And any practical tips on how to deal with 2 year old Ponsetti boot refusal?

OP posts:
Blu · 17/03/2009 20:51

Well, I only did it about twice, when I happened to peer down the spout and recoil in horror at what I saw! Then changed to anyway up cups which have easier to clean spouts - with a cotton bud!

Thanks for asking, BreadandRoses...he had his faxator frame reoved in Jan, and came out of ful-length plaster last week...I must update my blog! Has been very nail-biting - but he is DELIGHTED with his new mobility!

DS didn't have boots and bar....have you tried the STEPS website forum? Bound to have been a refuser there! Must be tough, with a 2 yo.

Nixdminx · 18/03/2009 10:29

pipe cleaners work - just cover them in washing up liquid - or those interdental brushing sticks from the dentist. if you have a bottle steamer use that too, or a microwave to kill mould
