Please can anyone help at all ??

For 8 years now we have put up with nextdoors "mess".

Neither of us you would class as in the weatlhy bracket but we have have decent/smart tidy houses - apart from nextdoors.

I admit to being a bit of neat freak, but would never dream of leaving me house in the state that they do. We are talking rubbish bags that have been left there since november weeds/general street litter/very untidy garden dirt etc etc etc. They also have four wheelie bins on the drive, which we politely asked them to put at the back of the house, when they first moved in(which is where all the bins in the street are kept) and they refused.

PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!

Our neighbours sometimes leave piles and piles of semi-closed black bin bags full of household rubbish in the shared bit between our houses and in their garden.

I don't like it.

I worry it will attract vermin.
Something (foxes?) get in and drag bits of refuse all over our garden eg I have more than once had to pick crappy semi-shredded nappies up from our garden.
They also put piles of used nappies etc in the green bins including our green bin which I just find revolting.
And they fill up our normal bin with their rubbish so we can't throw ours away.
And yes it looks bloody awful.

Amazed that anyone would think this is fine and dandy. I seethe every time it happens.

thenewmeone · 14/03/2009 19:38

So everything else aside - right or wrong - how do I go about getting it cleared up ??

I would be more than happy to volunteer to do it myself (I really would) cos yes it bugs me everytime I drive past.

I just don't see what the problem is?? No-one would want to buy their house as it is, are they so thick they can't even see that.
How can anyone not care about their own house and home.

It is totally beyond me.

I really would love to know. So anyone reading this now - with crap all over your front drive and 4 month old black bags. How can you stand it ???

I put up with it as we are on reasonable terms with our neighbours and I wouldn't want to get into any rows.

Maybe you could offer to put their bins round the back with the others when you do yours? Or just do it?

As for the rubbish in the garden, if you are worried about rats you could raise that with them.

If it's just that it looks bad and you don't like it I'm afraid you will have to put up with it. Bad aesthetics are not (usually) illegal.

Just thought as well - how come they have 4 wheelie bins? Is it a household of about 16 people?

Just thought as well - how come they have 4 wheelie bins?

One green - recycling.
One brown - garden
Two grey - normal rubbish.

One was here already - one they brought with them/stole when they moved in. I guess that could be classed as theft. They must take pride in their bin collection.

If we get the foodie compost one too that'll make five. Can't wait for that.

Before they moved in the bins were always kept at the back, it's just that they decided to move them and have them on display at the front. I suppose cos it was too much effort to wheel them through the passage. Their own passage. So not they're not gragging them through the house.

Am thinking of getting some miracle grow (great stuff) and letting rip of the shrubs !

"I put up with it as we are on reasonable terms with our neighbours and I wouldn't want to get into any rows."

I did that too, until when baby no 2 was born and foul sewage started to leak through their waste pipes and into our house.

It was four months before they actually agreed to do anything about it.

So yes - newborn baby and all that goes with it and a house filled with sewage aroma. How nice. They are those kind of neighbours.

the house ins originally said that it wasn't covered to clear it up only to mend the pipes if it was on our side (it wasn't), so oh ended up on his hands on knees for four months.

So they leave all the bins out the front even if they are empty?

So surely they wouldn't object to you at least putting those ones round the back with the others?

thenewmeone · 14/03/2009 20:00

They use the two grey ones.

They don't bother to recycle.

They dont do any gardening so there isn't any garden waste .

So surely the other 2 can go round the back?

I don't think I can help much really, I have no idea what to do about my neighbours either. Sorry.

People have different things they get wound up about, i like to see my neighbours houses neat and tidy from the outside....mine is not always though But, wheely bins just wouldn't worry me! We don't have wheely bins on our road but the roads nearby do and they all keep them at the front, i think they look quite neat
Your comment about renting/council properties was a little annoying though.
Our next door but one neighbour was housing association tenant, their front garden was littered with a couple of old fridges/washing machines and god knows what else, then one day they parked an ancient caravan in the front garden which had grafitti all over it....one of the words beginning with 'c' (rythmes with punt!) was facing my lounge window and my kids saw it every day, i did complain about that and it was moved.
But apart from that i do feel we need to loosen up abit with other people, we are NOT all the same!

Just read your post about the sewage, that is awful.

Yes, that is very true, years ago everyone was so friendly with their neighbours, elderly people tell me that they had great relationships with everyone up and down the road. Such a shame. I take parcels in for my neighbours on one side, they are HA tenants, not that that means anything at all to me, and they are just the loveliest people. Saying that, some people might find them awful! They have so many cars on the drive it is like a car showroom, also a rescue truck for cars, their teenagers have loud/late parties and they have noisy dogs. I love them though cos they are so friendly and full of life

JazzHands · 14/03/2009 20:22

Starlight I have a good relationship with neighbours and do all that stuff, but I think they genuinely don't see a problem with what they are doing, and I am far too feeble to mention it!

As an aside, different people have different standards, and I know for a fact some people I work with would be horrified if they came round to my house, but I think my house is fine.

Unless they are causing you a nuisance in some way eg rats, or you feel like going and having a long converastion about it, I don't think there's a lot you can do. And it sounds like a long conversation wouldn't do much anyway...
