Bosch washing machine is leaking when trying to drain, and not spinning

I've taken the trap out and there is nothing in there (which is the usual answer).

Any ideas gratefully received

In my manual it says " water runs out from under the appliance" Causes - Screw fitting of the inlet hose is leaking, - Tighten screw-fitting.
Causes - Drainage hose is leaking - Replace the drain hose.

As for not spinning there is a number of things, clean the pump, clean drainage pipe and/or drainage hose and Large laundry items have become entangled and are not evenly distributed in the drum and for safety reasons, the high speed final spin cycle is cancelled.

Hope this helps.

Where's it leaking from?

The drain hose might be blocked or kinked. If the water won't drain it might not spin.

JFly · 11/03/2009 14:13

Arrrrgh. I hate hate hate Bosch washing machines. I'm on my second one after they had to replace the first. Sounds like a similar problem.

Re the leak - anything stuck in the door seal? I think the bearings went in ours which is why it stopped spinning. Sorry, not sure that's helpful! Good luck with Bosch CS.

Thanks.

We tried it when it was empty too scorpion so I don't think it's an uneven load. We will have to haul it out and have a look at the pipes. See if the pipe is kinked.

JFly - this one of 8yrs old and was second-hand when we had it. And has never let us down before. I don't think it owes us a penny.

I don't know about the leaks, but the non spinning maybe down to it needing new brushes. This solved the problem for mine.

Millarkie · 11/03/2009 17:23

We've just put new brushes on ours - it was not spinning. And previously we had some 'non-draining' incidents which required dh to replace the pump. Not had the water leaking out though (when ours didn't drain I had to get the little drain tube from the near the filter at the bottom and drain it out from there).
That said, ours is 7 years old and has done the washing (including washable nappies) for a household of 5/6, so it's not surprising.

geekgirl · 11/03/2009 17:26

we've just had the brushes (I think?!) on ours replaced. They're a 'consumable' part and last about 4 years with heavy use IME - this is the second time we've had it done and our machine is 9 years old.
They're reasonably easy & cheap to do all things considered - I think I paid £60 including parts & labour.

geekgirl · 11/03/2009 17:27

(and yes they are the things that make it spin!)

OrmIrian · 12/03/2009 10:36

Great. Thanks everyone.

I have a suspicion the problem started with some of DH's old work clothes that he finally cleared out of his jeep when he sold it. I did a cursory check but I'd bet any money there were still some screws or nails in the pockets. I am wondering if something like that has damaged the drainage outlet and stopped the spin. But we'll see. Neigbour has an appliance repair business and is coming to look this afternoon.

I will let you know if my Bosch lives or dies.

My Bosch washing machine is a trooper - think it's ancient but it is a great machine.

DP is a builder and stuff is constantly being left in his pockets such as screws, bizarre bricklaying perpherals, pens and screwdrivers. Often have to empty the trap but thankfully have never burst the drainage hose, but am sure that will happen at some point in teh future unless we remember to check pockets (we get a lot of washed banknotes as well!)

Orm hope your machine lives.

No Tis dead.

Motor has gone.

But nice appliance fixing man has a reconditioned Hotpoint for us.

Funnily enough he refused to attempt to recondition newer models of any brand. He says, in most cases, they aren't worth it.
