Two things - skirting boards & bathtubs....how best to clean?

I have just realised that my skirting boards are yucky. Not dusty, just kind of scuffed and a bit grimy. Short of painting them (which I also want to do), what is the best way to get them looking presentable again?

Also, baths - best way to clean? I mean really clean, not just the normal once over that I normally do . Preferably using something not too toxic as I want to clean it before bathtime tonight and don't want fumes lingering.

Thanks in advance!

I do skirting boards with a solution of Flash type stuff and a well wrung out cloth.
The bath shouldn't need anything stronger than cream cleaner (cif). What have you been doing with it?!

When I got my bath installed it came with a care note which said "clean after each use or a build up of body oil may build up" bleurgh

I think that's what we're dealing with here....a build up of body oil.......euwwwwwww .

Erm...I normally just kind of wipe it with flash bathroom and hope for the best. Looks quite clean but not the sparkly bathroom catalogue clean that I am after .

Honestly, good scrub with a cream cleaner and shine it up with an old towel.

Great, thanks, will add Cif to shopping list. Now better get started on skirting boards!

Stardrops would do both and loadsa other stuff too. Plus it smells nice

I swear by barkeepers friend, its like old fashioned ajax powder, doesnt smell particularly great (not a really chemical smell just odd) great stuff though.

E-cloth and E-cloth, amazing things, no chemicals needed.

Baby wipes clean skirting boards very well.

For black shoe scuff marks on skirting boards I use kitchen spray and one of those small soft yellow sponges that have a slightly abbrasive surface stuck on one side.

Leave to soak after spraying for a minute or so and then scrub off.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I have done one room (incl walls) and I am happy to report that diluted kitchen & bathroom spray worked a treat. Now I just have the rest of the house to finish......!

Don't use wet cloth to cleaning your skirting boards all the time, cos that could change the shape of your wood. Here are some tips
