not too expensive, and have to go with the curtains on the smaller windows.

There's a photo on my profile of the curtains I have in here (2nd one of them pull shut is a bit dark, but the colours on the first photo of just one curtain are about right).

I've got a huge African batik (quite dark colours generally) I'll be hanging on the wall opposite the large curtains.

They don't have to match - but I do want them to sort of "fit" in with it.

So - you clever, clever MNers can you find me some - as I really REALLY hate the flowery ones I currently have up there (3rd photo on profile).............all 3 curtains down here were like that - but I'd got the curtains that are hanging now on the normal windows on freecycle and while they're not that great - they're a darn sight better than the "lovely" flowers

Watching with interest as would love some not-too-dear curtains for our french windows, too.

p.s. FAQ - how cute are your boys?

thanks MrsM.

I'm not after anything fancy - as you can see from the photo of the curtains hanging up that I've currently got (the stripey ones) - they're lined - but not proper thick lining. I just need something to hang there

a) to hide the shoe rack that's behind the curtains

b) just so I can close the curtains in the evening....it's not over looked but I do want something there.

If you I can find something "Africany" then my Batik could go upstairs in my bedroom or on the wall going upstairs (where it was hung previously in my old house).

If it wasn't so precious too me (and not quite big enough either) - I'd get my Batik cut in half and eyelets put in the top and use that as "curtains"

creativity is gooooooood but as it's precious to you then perhaps not in this instance

FAQinglovely · 06/03/2009 11:14

no - I couldn't get it cut in half - we bought it in Zim nearly 3yrs ago when we went back to visit.

Bought it from my favourite "market" stall not far from where I used to work out there. Haggled hard and got it for a good price - and as DH has the other one we bought at the same time this is the only one I have.......

I wonder whether it would be cheaper to buy a massive batik and then pay for it to be hemmed/eyelets put in............though obviously wouldn't be "quite" so genuine as my batik - buying an African batik from an online shop in the UK just doesn't have the same "feel" to it as buying it from a little trader on the street side

[perhaps not then
have to go pick up dd goo dluck in finding your batik xx

FAQinglovely · 06/03/2009 11:31

or maybe I could just get something like these and stick to hanging the Batik on the opposite wall to give some colour?
