My dishwasher and house stink of curry 3 days after the cooking event

how can I get rid of the smell? I've had every window and door open but it seems to have impregnated the walls. I can't stand it. I have cleaned everything and don't like artificial air freshners so what can I use?

Also, how do I make my dishwasher smell nice again? It's ponging every time I open the door.

I would give it a run through, or maybe a couple (!) with bicarbonate of soda. Just put a couple of teaspoons of bs in the bottom of the machine and run on the hottest wash. Do this a couple of times. Hope it works.

Thanks, will give it a go.

For the house have you tried a Cooks Candle? They are made by by Price and really get rid of cooking whiffs.

For the dishwasher you can buy lemon scented things to use in the dishwasher from the dishwasher aisle of the supermarket - Finish do them. Or try putting half a lemon in with the next load (making sure it doesn't fall through the rack - ie in the cutlery drawer or where you put glasses.

Hope this helps.

Put some cinammon powder in a baking tray/oven -proof dish and put it in the oven on low. Works a treat. (Thanks to another MNer for that - can't remember who though, ssorry]

Should have said Chefs candle - see here

Also just been on the Finish website they do an odour stop thing, see here
www.finish.co.uk/dishwasher_enhancers/finish_dishwasher_freshener.html

Sorry I don;t yet know how to do the neat link thingy with just one word

Ooh - did a search - it was ggirl who deserves the credit for the cinnamon idea.

I usually use scented oils to get rid of cooking smells. The ones from bodyshop are good.

My mom uses the vinegar, just pour a small amount of it on a bowl and it will absorb all the odor. You may give it a try.

Thanks everyone, doors have been open all day so far so the whiff is less noticeable. I like the cinnamon in the oven idea.
