Try liquid soda crystals. It's not got bleach in it, but it is very good for removing grease stains, even if you've washed it already.

I have to admit, I thought the title said WOODEN top and I was about to suggest ironing on hot temp onto a clean teatowel over the top of the mark!

There you are, two tips for the price of one!

Kbear · 04/03/2009 21:51

few drops of washing up liquid usually does the trick, put it on the stain and then straight in the wash.

Kbear · 04/03/2009 21:52

Yes Maureen, bizarre to find me on a domestic goddess type thread, I know!!

breaghsmum · 04/03/2009 21:54

i have no liquid soda crystals, just the actual crystally ones, are they the same or will they burn a hole in my top?

Fairy liquid will normally do the job, it disolves the grease on your clothes just like your dishes.

nancy75 · 04/03/2009 22:53

try talc, put it on the stain, leave overnight and then wash top as normal.

MaureenMLove · 04/03/2009 23:18

It'll do the same job. Just dilute it a bit, to make a thin paste and dab it on. Alternatively, put it straight in the wash. The instuctions are probably on the packet actually.

Nontoxic · 04/03/2009 23:34

Next time use washing up liquid straight on the dry stain before washing. It might still come out if you do this now.
And if you're anytbing like me when pg there'll be loads of next times!

Stainz-R-Out is v.good on greasy stains -even very old ones. They sell it on QVC UK and I'm sure I've seen it on eBay too. It works on lots of different stains and is organic and biodegradable so nothing nasty. A little goes a long way so it lasts ages.

dishwashing liquids do the job. put a drop of it before soaking it in water though.

If your top can tolerate a fairly warm iron, put a sheet of kitchen roll behind and on top of the material where the grease stain is and iron over the top. Keep changing/moving the paper until no more grease is transferred. The put through the machine on it's usual cycle.
