I am from the continent and have just learned today about the existence of "slow cookers". What is the idea?

Has anyone got desert recepe with granulated sweeteners for a diabetic friend who is comming to visit? May I add nothing with yogurt in please?

loads of slow cooker info in 'recipes' or 'food'. Basically they are a god-send! Lovely casseroles etc with v little electricity, no stifling kitchen in the summer and lots of cheaper cuts of meat.

[sorry i can't manage links]

The idea with the slow cooker is that you shove in meat, vegetables, beans etc in the morning, and then come evening you have a lovely stew, casserole or similar waiting for you. I know some people who have large ones who use them to cook a whole joint of meat but I've never tried that.

I have just got this recipe from the BBC website food section, not sure whether you have access to it from the continent. If you google then some other sites come up that have lots of desserts using sweetener.

Ingredients
200g/7oz frozen mixed summer berries, defrosted
200g/7oz carton virtually fat free fromage frais
1 tbsp caster sugar
25g/1oz amaretti biscuits, lightly crushed

Note: artificial/intense sweetener can be used to replace sugar, to taste

Method
Gently fold together all the ingredients, and spoon into serving glasses.

Thanks Alibaba, for explanation and recepe. Does it mean that you can have slow cooker on even if not at home? safely?

I do not live on the continent anymore but was only just told about slow cookers (after 13 years in the UK, slow even by my standards!)

Yes that's the idea, you load it up and switch it on in the morning before you go out and then come home to a cooked meal.

I have got a sugar free rice pudding recipe.

It is the usual recipe - approx 1 pint (568ml) of milk with 2oz/50g of pudding rice. Add a large squeeze of orange juice and some finely grated orange zest for sweetness, plus add some nutmeg. Bring to boil and simmer for approx 30 minutes. Use a large pan as it has a tendency to boil over. Serves approx 3 portions.

Thank you onepieceofcreamegg, even better as it does not even have sweetener in it!
