The bowel has a build up of limescale upto the waterline, i have tried toilet duck and elbow grease but it isn't shifting!
Can anyone recommend anything?

Sorry to reignite a zombie thread, but I found this one after googling. I made a note to buy some vinegar and some tablets for my disgustingly limescaled toilet, then after hunting through the cupboards found some kettle descaler.
It's all the same stuff? Right? I emptied the bowl of water, covered it in kettle descaler and one hour later my toilet is so bright and clean that I keep admiring it.
Thanks to all posters on this thread. You have saved me from toilet bowl limescale shame.

I have a septic tank that does not like chemical so all the preparatory stuff, bleach etc won't be acceptable. I am guessing that Coke or white vinegar will be ok. Perhaps those with septic tanks can let me know how they get rid of limescale in the toilet bowl. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but maybe someone has only now come to the topic through researching the problem. To clean loos under the water line, borax and white vinegar is your answer (not white wine vinegar - what you want is the cheap clear stuff). ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GOVES. Clean the loo as normal, then flush a couple of times. You can scoop some water out if you want, but leave some in there to get the borax to react. Tip in a quarter cup of borax, give it a swoosh round, then pour in 2 cups of white vinegar. Leave it for 30-45 minutes, then scrub with the loo brush or a non-metal scouring pad. It should work. If you've got one of THOSE loos where nothing seems to work, you have my sympathy. I moved into a house with one of those and eventually had to give in and install a new loo (which I've been careful to keep in pristine condition ever since!).
