Have moderate 3 bed house.
cleaner does 3 hours-dusts wipes and mops and vacumes whole house.
Cleans kitchen and bathroom.
Doesnt do windows. I go around and tidy beforehand - wouldnt expect her to do that.
I leave out a range of cleaning materials and always a note explaining anything new or for example -if time fridge could do with a clean inside .
I pay her 20.00 cash for 3 hours.

4 bed house.
Cleaner does 3 hours a week.

Cleans bathroom & tiny downstairs loo.
Sweeps & mops all floors (wood floors throughout, apart from a stair carpet & a rug in the back room, which she hoovers)
Cleans kitchen, including floors, oven, sink.
Bit of dusting and light tidying, but not much, really.

Pay her £24 cash in hand.

Thank you! Any others?

4 bed house, 3 hours.

Cleans 2 bathrooms and 1 loo. Mops kitchen floor ( but we are not altogether sure this is happening) cleans kitchen surfaces and other surfaces, hoovers throughout, clean out microwave, empty washing machine and dishwasher if required. Change bedding once a fortnight. Irons DH shirts if time.

oregonianabroad · 24/02/2009 21:35

ooh, change bedding. I hate that! Dh & I row about how the cover goes on the duvet. Hadn't thought of that one yet.

Any others?

And when you say 'cleans bathrooms' do you mean a quick once-over with a cloth, or a thorough scrubbing with germ-killing venom?

We have a 2 bed flat, very small. She does 3 hours once a week, she dusts all surfaces, hoovers throughout, cleans the bathroom and kitchen, changes the sheets on our bed (I leave them out for her) and generally does a tidyup. She also does an hours ironing at the end (mostly just dh's shirts)

She's through an agency, so we pay £27 for three hours work.

Wheelybug · 24/02/2009 21:43

Mine does 2.5 hours and does in this time - thoroughly cleans kitchen, 2 bathrooms, mops floors throughout kitchen, hall, sitting room, conservatory. Hoovers rugs, dusts and polishes everywhere including dado rails, banisters, skirting boards, hoovers stairs, landing 3-4 bedrooms. Tidies where necessary (although I try and do this beforehand my standards aren't always up to hers !), puts rubbish out and then sometimes other things (eg. unloads/loads dishwasher).

She is a marvel.

If I want further rooms done that don't get done every week I pay her an extra hour.

Oh and clean bathrooms means thoroughly scrubs everything so it sparkles (walk in shower/bath/sink/toilet/floors).

Quattrocento · 24/02/2009 21:45

7 hours

Strips and changes beds
Washes bedclothes
Hoovers everywhere
Washes floors
Cleans worksurfaces
Dusts and polishes
Irons everything that needs ironing (not much - only do shirts really)
Cleans bathrooms (all of them - she does them properly including the shower surrounds)

No time for windows, oven or fridge,

oregonianabroad · 24/02/2009 21:47

I want your cleaner, wheelybug. Are you anywhere near Durham???

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 24/02/2009 21:48

Nope sorry - SW London (although she travels for SE London - she took the job over from her cousin who lived locally !). Mind you, I have recommended her to friends and they've raved about her cleaning and then she's been really unreliable about turning up. Touchwood, she's fine for me.

pagwatch · 24/02/2009 21:50

Mine does 4 hours.

no washing or bed changing, windows or ovens.Mo ironing either.
She does the hoovering, washes all the floors, gives all the bathrooms a good clean, dusts and polishes everywhere. Cleans the kitchen surfaces including the hob. Tidies all the childrens rooms and the play rooms.
If she gets all that done that is pretty good going for four hours - it takes me way longer to do all of that.

oregonianabroad · 24/02/2009 21:51

I might have to move to London, then.

Four bed house in 3 hours [starting from tidy condition]

Beds stripped and washer on twice. All rooms vacumed, dusted, bathrooms and kitchen done including floors. Marks on wals and skirting board removed. Rubbish out.

Windows inside 2 hours every 3 months.

I get paid nowt

hf128219 · 24/02/2009 21:57

Mine does 15 hours a week. She does all washing, ironing, windows, hoovering, polishing, cleans silver, picture frames, skirtings, cat bowls, litter trays, unpacks shopping, loads/unloads dishwasher, arranges flowers - just about everything really.

I am very fortunate

oregonianabroad · 24/02/2009 21:59

ABetaDad, are you my dh???

Oh wait. you do windows.

Holy cow, HF12... that's a lot.

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 24/02/2009 22:04

Here's my list:

2 bathrooms & 1 loo: complete scrub

floors -- sweep & mop downstairs, hoover upstairs

kitchen -- good scrub

alternating weeks: fridge & oven (might need to consider replacing oven before cleaner can see it though, it is in shameful state)

dusting living room

3 hours? house pretty tidy already, just needs the general cleaning done.

hf128219 · 24/02/2009 22:17

I need the hours as (alas) I have to do a lot of sodding entertainin

FeelingLucky · 28/02/2009 21:37

I've just hired a cleaner to do the following in our two-bed flat:

Hoover
Sweep and mop kitchen floor
Wipe down worktops and wipe clean kitchen cupboards and handles, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, etc.
Clean cooker but not oven
Clean bathroom, toilet, sink and bathroom floor
Clean wooden floor in bedroom and living room
Dust everywhere with E-cloth (no chemicals or sprays to be used)

Every now and then: clean inside of windows, or inside of fridge
Hang washing out
Ironing (if any time left)

Paying £10 an hour for three hours a week - hope she can get it all done in that time, if not will have to drop one of the chores

merryberry · 28/02/2009 22:16

2 cleaners, 3 hours each at same time. from tidy, deep clean kitchen incl appliances inside. 3 floors of stairs, 3 bedrooms. small bath and cloakroom. beds and dining room table changed, windows kiddie-desmeared, empty bins, about 90 mins ironing, large kids toys wiped down, ditto doors, rails, chairs. have been with us for years now, do extra when kids born for a few months. going up from 10 to 11 quid an hour next month. london.

blossomsmine · 28/02/2009 23:55

Merryberry, i think you get a good deal there You have two cleaners, so they are now getting £5.50 each an hour, is that right? I work as a cleaner and usually get
about £10 hour. They obviously like working for you so looks like a good arrangement all round.
Abetadad....you made me smile

merryberry · 01/03/2009 10:31

Oh no not that good a deal! 66 quid for 6 hours. 2x3 people. They are great, detail better than me use their initiative and love my boys so they are fun to have in. Love the way in 3 hours flat the house is in great order.
