Would you ask your cleaner to ..

... do kitchen floor on hands and knees and damp dust using e-cloth only?
Am about to hire a cleaner and feel embarrassed about asking, especially the kitchen floor on hands and knees bit. We do have a mop but I don't think anything beats hands and knees.
Am I being cheeky?

Well, you're going to pay her aren't you? But I wouldn't do it tbh.........

MissisBoot · 21/02/2009 17:06

I think you are being a bit cheeky.

Does it matter how she does it if then end result is the same?

MissisBoot · 21/02/2009 17:06

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/02/2009 17:08

Why on earth would you expect anyone to do it this way, when that's what mops were invented for?!

Mind you, despite providing a mop, my cleaner prefers to clean the floor on her hands and knees. Quite mad.

BonsoirAnna · 21/02/2009 17:08

Yes, not problem with this,

DrillBit · 21/02/2009 17:10

Yes

They are not your slave. Dont be so Anal about it.

If the floor is clean it is clean.

If you feel it wont be upto scratch, have them leave it and do it yourself.

magnolia74 · 21/02/2009 17:18

As a cleaner I would refuse I'm afraid unless it was a very tiny kitchen. I am happy to scrub awful bits by hand but not the whole floor!!! You can buy very good mops that do a good job and you will be walking on it and making it dirty by the next day

Twims · 21/02/2009 17:22

Nope I wouldn't

BonsoirAnna · 21/02/2009 17:23

My floor is always washed on hands and knees and, precisely because of that, never needs scrubbing because it always gets properly cleaned and there is no build up. It takes about 5 minutes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2009 17:39

our cleaner uses a mop, and tbh i would never ask someone to do something that i personally wouldnt do

i certainly wouldnt get on my knees

DaisyMooSteiner · 21/02/2009 17:44

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask, but it's something you should make quite clear at interview so they have the choice whether to take the job or not. If you can't find anyone willing to take the job then you may have to revise your expectations!

FeelingLucky · 21/02/2009 17:45

that's the thing. I prefer getting on my hands and knees and would certainly do it myself.
Thanks for replies everyone.
Think I'll leave it to her to decide hands and knees or mop and I'll do hands and knees whenever I have time to satidfy my anal urges

I do get on my hands and knees for an elderly lady whose house i clean but the kitchen is literally 10 floor tiles!!

cluckyagain · 21/02/2009 18:13

Depends if you;re paying well!

PrettyCandles · 21/02/2009 18:15

I think both requirements are perfectly reasonable. However, re the floor, you might want to discuss it with her and give her a chance to show how well (or not!) her style of cleaning works.

FeelingLucky · 21/02/2009 18:15

Ooops

TweetleBeetle · 21/02/2009 18:20

I would feel embarrased toask a cleaner to mop the floor by hand but I understand why you would want to - mops are filthy and just spread the dirt around, also very difficult to clean.

In your position I would ask her to mop the floor then about once a month clean it yourself on hands and knees

Tangle · 21/02/2009 22:39

How about an e-cloth mop?

I've got a flat mop (although not as good as I suspect these are - half wish I'd seen them first), and the cloth part comes off and goes in the washing machine. Not quite as thorough as hands-and knees but a lot better than many and the floor now looks clean.
