I bet there is a knack to make them all flat and lovely. Am I an idiot for not knowing it? Reveal, domestic goddesses!

Can I ask "why do you fold fitted sheets"? I thought you just heaped them into a kind of ball shape and put them away!

did you never watch anthea turner- perfect housewife and envy her linen cupboard???!!!

Poppycake · 10/02/2009 15:03

As you iron, keep folding the untidy ends into the middle.

Tho since going back to work, it's a case of finding a clean one draped on a radiator somewhere. Oh for the days when my airing cupboard was a work of art (there was colour coordination and everything )

Brilliant! That guy is like a wise man of the woods, but a wise man of the linen cupboard. He probably tells tall tales of demon crumpled damask pillowcases around the campfire.

You dont!

What we do is wash them, tumble dry in a dryer that is not too full so they do not get too creased and whip them out straight back on the bed as soon as they are dry.

We have been rotating the same set of fitted sheets on and off the beds every week like this for the last 2 years.

Just takes a bit of planning.

We also made a decision to only have white bed linen and towels so everything can go in the same wash and then you do not have to store washing until you have enough of a given colour.

Itsjustafleshwound · 10/02/2009 15:15

With difficulty!

Basically, put the sheet on the wrong side and put your fingers in where the points are (where the seam goes up)

Put one point over the other (sheet is right way round) and then fold the sides in and then put the sides together ..

Hard to explain - DH just leaves me to it ...

You get the two shorter ends, attempt to neatly fold them in on themselves to cater for the fitted bit. Then you attempt to fold it again the other way. Then it all slips out. And you resort to bundling it up and sticking it in the linen cupboard.

isn't that right?

ABetaDad · 10/02/2009 16:07

OrmIrian is right. Of course the way to get round this problem is shove it in the cupboard in a heap then forget about it until you need it. Then - get it out and spray water on it quite aggressivley with one of those spray bootles that you can get to spray plants with and then put it n the dryer on its own for a bit.

Hey presto stretch it on the bed and no one will notice the small creases that are left after tumble drying.

Also works if you tumble it with a wet towel.

Ironing?
Ironing sheets?
I have no knowledge of this.
However the fitted sheet if jersey for a cot or cot bed is left in a ball and chucked into the basket on top of the wardrobe.
If crispy cotton for an adult bed then that is more difficult and can result in an upsetting disarray in the airing cupboard.
