Are you a righteous rinser or a sloppy soap muncher?

I remember the first time I saw someone washing up without rinsing the dishes...yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk! I find it so bizarre that so many people in the UK wash their dishes that way - not least because they often end up with soap and food dried onto the plates.

As Janet Jackson would say: Naaasty.

i will ask the dishwasher

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 05/02/2009 15:49

I have the tap running the whole time to rinse with hot water and get any scummy bits I've missed off.

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 15:49

Aka your DP?

Do you wash up with an accent?

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 15:49

(that was meant for Goaty)

Yes - I use an Upper Yakutian accent to make sure my dishes really sparkle

Really, I find that a grating Mancunian accent really scrubs off all that grime and grease!

SheherazadetheGoat · 05/02/2009 15:51

no just the dishwasher.

i shover everything in teh dishwasher i dispise washing up.

Dropdeadfred · 05/02/2009 15:51

dishwasher rinses...i don't

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 15:53

Sheherazade, do you like ironing? If so, maybe we could do a housework swap!

Rhuby, I think you'll find Scouse is ideal for scouring off burnt-on stains!

no i hate all housework. if i could put the bathroom in the dishwasher i would do it.

brimfull · 05/02/2009 15:55

waste of water to keep tap running
on a par with washing your meat imo

TrillianAstra · 05/02/2009 15:56

I rinse, and I always go bit when we're told to be greener and not have the tap running the whole time. The people suggesting this, do they like to eat soap?

thumbwitch · 05/02/2009 15:56

Rinse rinse and rinse again until no soap left at all. UGH!

LoveMyLapTop · 05/02/2009 15:57

I dont wash dishes
I make my staff do it for me

thumbwitch · 05/02/2009 15:57
brimfull · 05/02/2009 15:58

I love a bit of fairy myself mmmmmmmmm

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 15:59

What's wrong with washing your meat? Anytime I see the water that fishmongers use to 'wash' my fish in it always reminds me why I always rinse it off afterwards.

Agree that taps running is not a great idea but I rinse it all in a washing-up bowl so it's less wasteful.

thumbwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch!!!

brimfull · 05/02/2009 16:02

why would you wash meat??????

do you eat it raw???

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 16:04

Ggirl, I wash meat because my cookbooks tell me to. Simple.

No, seriously, I wash it because I question the hygiene of the people who've provided it for me. I also wash fruit and veg - don't you?

I always wash my fish and my turkey (S'always a bit sticky, you know?) but not other meat. My dad used to wash the bacon if it had gone a bit slimy (blech!) but it never did us any harm.

I put my stuff in the half-basin in the middle after washing it and then rinse it off at the end; or if it's too big, I rinse it and then switch the tap off again.

I particularly worry about all these anti-bacterial washing up liquids - how to kill all your intestinal bacteria, swallow half a spoonful of wash-up liquid with your lunch/dinner!

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 16:08

Too right about anti-bacterial nonsense. It's useful in moderation but only once in a blue moon, and never on your dishes, IMO.

Yuk - watching those soap suds dripping slowly down the plates in the knowledge that they'll dry on - yuuuuuuuuuukk!

I don't rinse my dishes. I am personally saving the world by using Ecover AND conserving water! So there...

Oh but I do wash my meat. Not mince though as I reckon any yukky germs have been minced right through

MrsMerryHenry · 05/02/2009 16:22

Shootfrom, do you find that if you ever smell clothing washed in anything but Ecover the scent is overwhelming and vile? I stayed at a friend's house on hols last year and used their washing powder for our laundry...I couldn't believe how overpowering non-eco stuff smells!
