Help me decide - to get a cleaner or not?

Im in two minds about this.

I feel i shouldn't need one as i only live in a small two bed flat but it seems however much i tidy i can never get on top of things.

I have ds2 at home all morning while ds1 is at nursery.

I was only thinking an hour or two a week just someone to come in and help me to tidy the house, not alot really.

I have all the cleaning stuff here.

I will be doing alot of volunteer work this year and i really want to sort my garden out which will leave me even less time to do the house work.

I can't make my mind up though i kind of feel a bit wierd having someone else clen my home........

Will DS2 be going to playgroup anytime soon? He's 2 now isn't he?

I have a cleaner for my 2 bed flat but I do work FTOH so I find it easy to justify but if you can afford it then deffo do it, I love it.

Tidying is not my strong point and having a cleaner makes everything manageable in between times.

If you can afford it, you are giving someone income right when they may badly need it, and you are lowering your stress levels at same time. There's no shame in any of that, quite the opposite, it's a socially responsible thing to do nowadays to get some 'staff' in .

I have just arranged for a regular cleaner, can you tell? 6 of us in this house, I'm the only one who cleans or tidies (well, 98% of the time), and I don't actually enjoy it. DH can pay for somebody to do his share and help keep the kids' mess from driving us both nuts.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 31/01/2009 18:24

If you can afford it do it. I used to have acleaner and she did all the things I never get round to, like windows, skirting boards, de cobwebbing. It made the whole place so much cleaner and so then easier to keep on top of.

The gardening sounds like a nice thing to be doing, much more satisfying than cleaning.

Get a cleaner to do a one-off clean. Then the place will be clean, you'll know how you feel about someone being in your house etc, and most cleaners will then leave their mobile number so you can contact them.

Not that I'm recommending shafting agencies, but all the ones near me insist on weekly or fortnightly cleaning, which is a waste as I only need one once a month or so. Their loss.

janek · 31/01/2009 21:23

yes, get a cleaner, why would you do it yourself if you can afford to pay someone? a cleaner is not being constantly disrupted by the DCs so can actually get on with it. i don't really mind cleaning, but my house is filthy because i can't ever find a long enough window to get it all done, and just doing half is a bad (if not worse) than not doing it...

Leslaki · 31/01/2009 21:28

yes yes yes!!!! best thing I ever did!!!

MrsMattie · 31/01/2009 21:30

Cleaners don't generally tidy up, though. Gotta remember that. Is it cleaning you want doing, or tidying up?

Leslaki · 01/02/2009 12:43

oh my cleaner tidies too - she's fab!!

Do it if you have the money. You will not regret it.

Whether you will get anyone to do just an hour is debatable though, that wouldn't get much done and probably isn't worth the while of the cleaner.
