well the problem is I have SO much to do moving 75% of my worldly possessions out of the garage, and the other 25% out of the lounge to where they belong, plus normal housework that if I make a list it's just going to be totally and utterly overwhelming.

  • DS's up and dressed DONE
  • Wash bottles and few dishes DONE
  • Hang clothes on radiators in progress
  • Load of washing DONE
  • Go to the shop for something for dinner/lunch/milk etc DONE (though was bloody hard with even with the Quinny through the deeper bits of snow)

  • Spend too long on MN and Ebay and reading the news online, etc. etc. DONE

FAQ - i would love to come and help you unpack

instead i really should peel myself off the sofa and at least do the dishwasher...which will lead to some other activity as i spot things that need doing.....

FAQtothefuture · 05/02/2009 14:47

I'd love some help with unpacking

I've just suddenly had a major dilemma (well it's not really but it feels like it) I've only EVER had 3 kitchen drawers, now I've got 4 - been standing their emptying the contents of my old kitchen drawers trying to fathom out what to put in the 4th drawer lol (oh it's such a hard life I have you know - biggest thing to worry about today is what to put in a kitchen drawer )

The worst part of the unpacking is just trying to get cupboard clean to unpack into, and furniture where it should be (and assembled) so that boxes can actually be unpacked.......

At the moment about 1/3 of my furniture is still either in bits or in the garage LOL.

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 05/02/2009 14:54

Wellll, when we moved in here we had too many cupboards and drawers and the rule applies - your stuff will expand to fill the space
see just how long you can leave that 4th drawer empty!!!!

i would say clear a space, assemble the furniture. then sit down!
emptying boxes can be done one at a time when you have the time/energy but furniture/big stuff can make a big difference quickly - well quick-er anyway.

FAQtothefuture · 05/02/2009 15:00

ermm clear space??? what space hehe

Actually I need to take quite a lot of the furniture upstairs still - thankfully there's only the single wardrobe and a bookcase that I need to lug up the stairs, everything else is for downstairs........I'm getting there.

want to get my kitchen sorted today so at least when I'm trying to keep up with the washing, and feeding the DS's I'm not trying to work in clutter and mess lol

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 05/02/2009 15:04

Oh yes a workable kitchen will make life easier.

Hard work getting things upstairs on your own, can DS1 help?

still it's all exciting

i still haven't moved - i am soooo lazy today.

FAQtothefuture · 05/02/2009 15:10

well DS2 helped me move the double mattress upstairs the other day - I've got a (not very helpful) 180 degree turn half way up my staircase which does make life a little more difficult.

I'll get them both helping later lol

OP posts:
simpson · 05/02/2009 15:57

woohoo - getting there, just emptied another box - admittedly with crockery stuff that hardl ever gets used (a fancy little coffee set, shot glasses etc - but still it's empty and put away).

I've also found the cutlery tray - just need to find the cutlery and the crockery box and they can eat with a knife and fork tonight off a plate, rather than with fingers/spoons out of a bowl/mug/paper towel

OP posts:
FAQtothefuture · 05/02/2009 16:32

right off to find crockery and cutlery

You know what - by the time I go to sleep tonight I reckon I may have a kitchen that resembles a "working" kitchen

Sorry I have been lax in posting - mind you I have been great at cleaning! My daily list has been complete nearly every day, although I am getting bad at doing the evening tidy round

However, I am GOING OUT tomorrow night and I only have a couple of hours to get the house ready for my Mum

So, my emergency list

tidy front room
sweep downstairs
topntail kitchen
clean bathroom
sweep stairs
tidy hall
sort hall "dump zones"
Have lots of fun and not a little beer
