My boiler's making loud clunking/banging sounds. Can anyone help? Will it break down before Monday? Should I turn it off and freeze?

It sounds rather nasty, the landady would rather get it repaired over and over again then get a new one. It's normally noisy but never this bad. It sounds like the pump.

Pressure seems to be fine too. I put the heating of water on its lowest and waited for an hour, now I think the noise has stopped. Hopefully won't occur again

We always have this problem, the boiler makes a vibrating noise then loud bangs like an explosion. Eventually the boiler would start leaking water underneath the control panel (I was assured that the control panel was waterproof and completely safe to touch Hmm ) and I've been told it's the condensate pipe getting blocked and causing back pressure so that was the reason for mini explosion and vibrating.

Every year in the winter it happens and every year it gets fixed, never replaced by the HA. The last time was just before Christmas and the plumber decided to put a new pipe in, see how long it is before it happens again!

DeeCayed,

Thanks for your advise. I guess we will have to call specialist in this case. The strangest thing is that I have to reset it constantly and I think maybe it is to do with the control panel.

Thanks for this thread! I'm going to try the descaler... The noises my boiler is making are quite scary, Worried it's going to blow up!! 2 yr old boiler and new pump, radiators all bled. Man coming tomorrow for the fifth time!! Grrrr
