I got ds a coat (from ebay) it's his size but a little big on him ,he could really do with it now so how would/could I shrink it.

It is 100% cotton and the lining is polyester and acrylic .

My mother has succeeded in shrinking my clothes everytime she visits - she now knows about the wool cycle on our washing machine.

Not sure shrinkage is the solution - you wouldn't be able to control shape and level of shrinkage.

Getting a needle and thread would be a better option - this also means coat will last longer.

depending on the type of fabric it may shrink if you put it in a very hot wash, but it's quite possible that will fade it too. the lining won't shrink no matter what you do to it. i would look at the main seams (sides, armscyes, any darts) and see if you can take them in a little.

well, i say "i would", what i'd actually do is just let him wear it as is, i have no problem putting kids in somewhat oversize stuff. if it's enough too big to look ridicuous i'd just put it away for next year.

Don't do anything he'll grow so fast. Turn up the sleeves and put two stiches in fout corners to hold it in place. Don't turn in turn out as he's hands will get stuck every time
