.... and the bread is now ready to come out - I am so excited and can honestly say I feel this machine has the potential to bring great joy to the Plucker household!

am jealous - would love one but literally nowhere to put it

PheasantPlucker · 11/01/2009 14:06

We don't really, but I have fancied one for ages, so now have even less worktop space than before! Bread is now out and has to sit for 15 minutes before being eaten. Oh the agony!!!

Oooo... we got a Panasonic one for Christmas and I LOVE IT! It's by far the best present I've ever had.... people are starting to get a bit sick of me raving about it though!! I hope your bread is delicious xx

NAB3lovelychildren · 11/01/2009 14:16

don't bother letting it sit. we don't. yummy hot with butter on.

janawantsinfo · 11/01/2009 16:43

hi i got a bread machine fr0m LIdl today as well, do you have a recipe for wholemeal flour, ive sat and figured the instructions out but am baffled how you work out which size of loaf your baking eg. 750g or 1000g or 1250g, is it the quantity of flour you use? help. I cant wait to use is.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 11/01/2009 16:43

how was it - tell me you have eaten some!!

PheasantPlucker · 11/01/2009 19:51

Fab! Jana, we put in 500g flour and (I think) 350ml of water, and this equates to a 750 loaf - the smallest size. We are going to make some more, I think I am going to become obsessed!!

Got one before Christmas and am obsessive!! It's brilliant - I am very boring about it too Ineedmorechocolatenow but it's making me fatter.... I made croissants ( or the dough for them anyway) too, takes ages but they are gorgeous.

Megglevache · 19/01/2009 14:55

oooh how do they work then?

Mixing, proving, kneading? Doe sit sort all of it out for you? Do you use fresh yeast?

Dh would love to get into bread making I think? How young do you think they could do it (dc's I mean not dh's lol)

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/01/2009 14:57

yes all bread mahcines do that but you have to use fast action use suitable for a bread machine not fresh.

ProfYaffle · 19/01/2009 14:58

They're great. You put the stuff in, switch it on, few hrs later fresh bread. I used the timer on mine last night so woke up to fresh bread for breakfast. Yummy.

Megglevache · 19/01/2009 15:08

why doesn't it need proving then?

Wow imagine that smell in the morning!

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/01/2009 15:11

it does need proving - it takes about 3-3.5 hours in total.

Megglevache · 19/01/2009 15:12

oh and it stays in the pot and proves after it's been mixed?

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/01/2009 15:15

yup some of the really clever ones have mixing paddles that fold themselves flat after mixing before cooking (otheriwse you get a paddle shaped hole in the bottom of your loaf)

Hmmm... must go home and put bread maker on...

PheasantPlucker · 19/01/2009 15:17

A week or so on and I am still loving it...

ProfYaffle · 19/01/2009 18:56

I'm now on my 2nd machine, wore the first one to a frazzle Yes Meggle, mixing, proving and baking all in the same pot. Apparently mine makes jam too but I haven't tried it, stuck to an old fashioned jam pan so far.

dazmum · 20/01/2009 17:36

Megglevache, with the croissants you make some 'basic dough' then roll it out to a rectangle then add some dabs of butter, and fold it up, roll it again, do the same, and yet again! Then you leave it in the fridge for 30 mins and do all three rollings again, then divide it up into squares, cut into triangles and roll them up like croissants, prove them for 20 mins until double in size and cook. They are lovely - I have some still in the freezer, they took so long to do that I ration them!!

Is there a taste difference between rapid baking and the longer version? I always use rapid, with hot water.

You can make cakes in it too!

Megglevache · 21/01/2009 12:48

Wow

dazmum · 21/01/2009 19:06

Sorry!! Go on, have some new bread!

JackBauer · 21/01/2009 19:52

Pheasant, tell me, does it have a paddle? Is it easy to get teh bread out?
We have a bread maker but don't use it veyr often as it leaves a big hole in teh bottom of the bread so we only end up with half a loaf after ripping it out (non stick has had it I think!)

Sazlocks · 21/01/2009 19:56

we got one after christmas as very excited by it ! Got a great book from Amazon with lots of lovely recipes. We have made some lovely bread and homemade pizzas so far.
