should I buy a tumble dryer

Baby is due in 3 weeks. We don't have a drier and don't have room anywhere we could hang a vent thing out of the window, so i think we'd have to get the more expensive 'condenser' type. Do you think it's worth the ease of drying for the expense of buying/running the thing and the environmental implications? We can hang thins out in summer, but the house is COLD in winter and everything takes ages to dry.

We bought one (advised to by friend with small baby who was sick all the time) and to be honest we don't use it that often and could have managed without. If you have limited space and a baby who is sick several times a day (and over you too!) you will probably find one invaluable.

We didn't have one for years and I'm so glad we bought one now. So much extra washing with a new one you'll want to make life easier for yourselves.

I try not to use it all the time. You won't have to sue it all the time either. Do it!

WowOoo · 11/01/2009 13:41

I meant to say use it, not sue it, damnit.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 11/01/2009 13:42

I have never wanted a tumble dryer, then a friend gave me her old one and oh my god is my life easier, I use it as little as possible and wouldn't touch it in the summer, but it is fab.

warthog · 11/01/2009 13:43

yes definitely! i have a condenser. love it.

plantsitter · 11/01/2009 13:45

Thanks for this: am trying to convince DP so any more comments welcome...

If he doesn't agree I may just buy one anyway but I would rather not have an argument about it!

I use mine about 4 times a week for about 50 mins a time and everything is dry. When I didn't have it it used to take 2 days to dry everything and the house smelt damp.

I DO NOT use it in the summer.

I have e new condenser dryer. I love it. Mine doesn't take longer than my old one. But my old was old as in older than me.

I set it to high heat and it dries my work clothes in minutes. Plus you can save all the water it collects to use in your iron instead of using expensive ironing water.
