Wood burning stoves and Wood Surrounds/Mantelpieces

We are thinking with putting in a dual sided wood burning stove to replace our gas fire and electric "wood burner", that we have either side of our chimney breast. We have 2 wood surrounds which we'd prefer not to replace if possible. We also have black granite hearths both sides.

There are apparently some restrictions on how close combustible materials can be to a wood burning stove, which might mean we have to replace our current surrounds, but we're waiting to find out if we will need to replace ours. Does anyone have a wooden surround with a stove?

If we do need to go for something else, what would other surrounds would look nice with a Black granite hearth - really do not want the expense of replacing too much, so still hoping to keep the hearths. We want a fairly traditional look, rather than anything modern, and the stove will be freestanding.

Yes I have one, chunky pine surround and black slate hearth, stove is set into the chimney breast with slate at the sides.
Got this fitted in Nov last year and have had no problems with it AND the heat is fantastic.

that's great thanks - sounds like just what we want to do. Am really looking forward to being much warmer next winter.

Don't have wooden surrounds but just wanted to say that woodburners rock. I love ours. If you hang washing near it it dries in no time. Since having ours I have on a couple of occasions had an empty laundry basket.
