Help me organise my childrens clothes, am getting desperate

since moving house, dd1,2 + 3 share wardrobes. this consists of two hanging rails and 4 shelves for clothes. no room for drawers in their room.

the plan is to have uniforms hanging up in the lower rail, underwear and pj's in labelled boxes for each child and weekend clothes on the higher rail. but i've hit a snag. i dont have enough of those clippy hangers for skirts and trousers.

i need them. really i do. because all things that cant be hung up and getting slung on the shelves and its a complete mess. all undies have been messed up, hence dd3, who wears age 2-3 knickers and vest coming downstairs in age 9-10 stuff and it falling off her. its mainly due to dh not knowing my precise order of sorting thats its happened as he has been taking care of laundry since dd4 arrived, but now the older three are bacxk at school and nursery i need to get to grips with it whilst dd4 sleeps.

so i need to know where to buy those clippy hangers really and hopefully i can get it sorted in one day

I am always short of those hangers too. But when I last went in H&M and bought something for the dds the assistant asked me whether I wanted the hangers. I said I only wanted the trouser ones as we never have enough of those, and that I didn't want the normal hangers.

She then proceeded to bag up my purchases and added to my bag a whole handful of the clippy trouser hangers

I was amazed, as sometimes when I chat to the assistants I don't feel they are really listening (well, I s'pose they are busy working).

Anyway, if you've got an H&M near you, you could always pop in and ask?

Good luck

no h+m nearby, adams have gone and next generally remove the hangers without asking except in the sales. thats our choice of kids clothes stores in town

You could put a wanted ad on freecycle, I got rid of a huge box of random hangers there a while ago.

ooh look here

i dont think the shops mind giving you the hangers if you ask for them, i often do this as i never have enough of one sort or the other. you could try shoe boxes for underwear and write each child's name on them. also, giving them their own underwear to put away will mean its their responsibility and its likely they will take more care to ensure noone else has their knickers!!! my ds is 3.5 and he sorts his own vests, pant, socks and pyjamas into their own separate baskets. he has no dawers either.

i'm off to watford friday and will try h+m there. dd1 loves their clothes in there so will get soemthing for her no doubt as rarely head that way.

will keep that link for amazon but if all else fails then will head to ikea in a couple of weeks.

use normal coathangers with pegs on to hold the skirts.

FourArms · 07/01/2009 15:55

Next time you're at an NCT or other nearly new sale, wait around after the sorting back into boxes time. We've always put loads out for anyone to take.

Metatron · 07/01/2009 16:05

I sew ribbon loops on stuff so I can hang it.

I also moved the hanging rails forwards as far as I could and shelved up the back of them.

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 16:15

was just going to post what mankymummy said - that's what we always had at home when I was young. Would do in the meantime to save you dashing off anywhere.

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 16:16

oh, and I put DD's undies and socks in boxes in her drawer which helps a bit
