get on their knees once or twice a week & give the floor a good clean that way???

Or am I just weird?

Or maybe it's the fact that there's so much rubble falling off the walls at the mo that every time I mop I just seem to be moving bits of fallen wall around the floor which is horrid anyways!

Either way, I hate mopping!

Cleaning on your knees is MUCH better than mopping

but i do, do recommend the the E-cloth mop or E-mop or whatever it's called, as I hate getting down on my knees even more - the point being you can wash the cloths, so you're not just spreading dirt around.

bellavita · 05/01/2009 13:34

I do mop for quickness, but I do get down on my knees and wash the floor by hand. I have a bucket with soapy liquid in and use the kitchen sink to rinse out the cloth so I am not dirtying the soapy water - if that makes sense.

It also dries much quicker when you do it by hand.

Or you could try a Scoomba - robotic thing which does it for you (I can't have one as our floor is rough slate - looks great but gets pools of filthy water when you clean it.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/01/2009 13:37

I hoover first, then use a microfibre mop, I have to do it as we have wooden floor thoughout.

angemorange · 05/01/2009 13:54

I also hate mopping but there's a mop by Lakeland for about £19 that you put water into and then can carry it about the house, without having to lug buckets etc. Wouldn't say it's a high point now, but it is much easier!

thesockmonsterofdoom · 05/01/2009 14:26

I dont own a mop, I always wash any mucky looking bits, although I rarely do the whole floor.

lucysmam · 05/01/2009 17:14

not just me who hates mopping then! Think I'll have a look at the e-cloth mop, didn't know about them cheers choosy.

Liking the sound of a scoomba as well but judging by my oh's reaction when I asked for a roomba I think I may be pushing my luck asking for one of those!!!

Used to hand wash now use a mop. Have a very mucky Ds so would be on my hands and knees daily. DH quite like the look but I haven't got time now for that kind of Hanky Panky.

hellogoodbye · 05/01/2009 17:27

I have a steam mop. It was only about £20 but means that you don't need any cleaning products, it has a bit you put the water in so no bucket or anything (and I don't fill it every day either, just when it runs out as it is only clean water in there, no dirty), there is nothing to empty out or make the floor too wet. Just a 2 min job to wash the floor and it is all done. I used to hate mopping the floor but now it doesn't bother me.

I would love a scooba if we could afford one but can't!

thepuddingchef · 05/01/2009 22:38

it's funny that this should be posted now as I bought a floor cloth yesterday, deciding that my mob was minging and never cleaned the floor properly anyway just moved things around, cleaned floor on hands and knees and it took 2o mins but my floor was lovely, much much better, cleaned properly and still looks good now. I would recommend the extra effort!
So I suppose that makes me weird too?

TigerFeet · 05/01/2009 22:42

mopping acheives nothing more than spreading the muck evenly over the floor imo

Some rubber gloves, a dishcloth and some soda crystals solution with a tiny spot of washing up liquid does the trick.

hellogoodbye · 05/01/2009 22:54

Oh and the steam mop comes with washable pads so there is no spreading muck around.

lucysmam · 06/01/2009 18:40

not just me then, I'm getting on my hands and knees when MIL has the lo tomorrow to give it a thorough clean & then that's how I intend to do it from now on!

Although I may invest in some kind of mop for lazy days but certainly not the kind with a stringy head that spreads dirt everywhere

I do that too. Or else I have two clothes and a bowl of clean water, and I 'walk around the floor with my feet. SOmetimes I get DD to 'help' and we dance our floor clean!

I hate mopping, all it does is slop dirty water across the floor.
