Felt tips on a whiteboard - is it ruined?!

DD used normal felt tips on the whiteboard side of her easel and they won't come off (not sure what she used before - wipeable ones, I presume, if such a thing exists?!) Is it ruined or can I use anything to get it off?

You can buy a whiteboard cleaner spray that takes all non-whiteboard pen marks off. Not sure if there is a cheap homemade equivalent..nail varnish remover??! (that´s what it smells like!)

You can buy a cleaner spray (DH gets his from Uni so not sure where you would buy it from) BUT when I used it to clean the whiteboards at playgroup, it only lifted the surface marks off and it left stained light coloured marks all over it. Could be that they were really old pen drawings though so still hope.
Worth trying a few homemade thingies though - vinegar, white spirit, de-icer... ummm, I would just go through your cupboards and give it a whirl. You might get lucky x

This works with some pens, not all - scribble over the marks with a white board pen, leave it for about 30 seconds & then wipe off.

use cheap perfume(poundshop specials are best). i have no idea why, but it works . its so good it takes perminent marker pen off too!even took it off kids light oak furniture, and satinwood paintwork!you need to get your dd some DRY MARKERS, should have them in any stationary shop /w.h.smiths.use microfibre cloth with perfume, it helps grab the ink and stops it smearing and it will run a wee bit and you'll have to repeat a few times.

Nail varnish remover works for tough permenant markers, dunno about ordinary pens tho!

How did it go?

cmotdibbler · 04/01/2009 22:05

When I wrote on our whiteboard with permanent pen, scribbling over it with the pen and wiping off straight away worked

Tinkjon · 05/01/2009 10:34

The nail varnish remover didn't work, nor did the hairspray Haven't found time to try the other yet, but I will do - I think if the acetone wouldn't clear it then probably nothing will. It has faded it a bit though.

Whitening toothpaste worked a treat on ours - found the bicarb of soda Colgate whitening the best so far! Lovely minty smell too

blametheparents · 05/01/2009 10:39

I did this once on a whiteboard at work. I scribbled over it with a a white board pen, and then rubbed it off.

popsycal · 05/01/2009 10:42

cilit bang

Might be able to help - Brasso!
DS got an easel for christmas with chalk board on one side and magnetic whiteboard on the other. Within 1 hour he had written on chalk board with pen!
SIL suggested Brasso to get it off and it worked - apparently that's what they use to get permanent markers off whiteboards and it definitely worked for us - admit I don't have any in the house, my MIL did, but am sure you can get it at most supermarkets
HTH

Thanks, ladies, will add those to the list of things to try

Baby wipes normally get anything off that I try - including gloss paint off my fingers...

It always makes me wonder whether I should be using them on my child's bottom!! (And makes me categorically avoid using them on his face!)
