My kitchen is flooded (dd1 must have thought it would be a good idea to plug the bath in and turn the taps on)!!!

I mean FLOODED there is at least an inch of water on the floor! How ccan I get it out?

Will the carpet cleaner suck it all up? I have a concrete floor and a high step so I can't just sweep it out.

Oh dear. Can you sweep it into a bucket with a saucepan/something?

Contact your insurance company, it may soak into the units.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 02/01/2009 00:12

No the units are high so they should be okay.

Towels - lots of them will soak up the water. Or you can brush it into a shovel and into a bucket - or use plastic containers to bail it out.

Then you need to talk to insurance company ASAP - lots of them have 24 hour hotlines. They should get some industrial machines in to dry it out for you.

scrooged · 02/01/2009 00:13

That's good. Do you have something you can scoop it up with?

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 00:14

We had something similar in our utility room. We have a vax and that sucked up the worst of it and then we used towels ( a lot of them) for the rest.

fortyplus · 02/01/2009 00:14

Bath towels - soak and wring out outside. Don't use the cleaner unless it's adesigned for water. Then tomorrow morning get down to the hire shop for a dehumidifier if things are still damp.

Thanks Fallen. The majority of it has now been vaxed! I have left the backdoor open to airdry the rest.

Whose great idea was it to have children anyway?

Is it too cold to have the door open wont it have the opposite effect?

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 00:30

Phew.

Hope everything is undamaged.

I don't know its not raining or foggy here. The kitchen has no heaters/radiators. The only heat comes off the oven.

Everything seems undamaged. Lighting/oven etc still working. Insides of units and food is still dry.

Seems I got home just in time.
