Looking for a traditional clothes drying rack to suspend from the ceiling in utility room. About 4 foot long and less than £50. Any recommendations please ?

I've had one for years - got it from the local hardware shop. It is plastic though (not sure if this matter) and was about £20 when I bought it.

Like this?

Pulley is what we'd call it

Is it this sort of thing you are after LIZS??

I got mine off ebay. We call it a pulley too.

We got our "pull-up airer" as a kit from ebay. Worth every penny, a hundred times over. Find a good spot for it above a radiator.

LIZS · 01/01/2009 15:52

yes that's the sort , thank you.

If you attach it to ceiling does it have to be in the joists?

blithedance · 01/01/2009 23:23

Yes it does, definitely, as there is a lot of weight in a load of wet washing!

Drill a row of fine holes to locate your joists if you have problems. Attach the cleat to something solid as well.
