Hello!

Does anyone have any good tips on how to clean windows, without using any specific window spray thingy?

vinegar and newspaper

wash the with hot soapy water and then wipe
then vinegar and polish off with newspaper

they will sparkle
mine dont as I haven't done it but yours will

OhBling · 30/12/2008 15:40

Or even just windowcleaner but with newspaper - means you only have to do one step!

HSMM · 30/12/2008 15:53

Can they sparkle?

BoffinMum · 30/12/2008 15:54

Even easier - get a blue e-cloth from Lakeland. You then just squirt plain tap water on them from a plant sprayer and polish, and there are no streaks at all.

If they are very dirty I do them with a washing up sponge and washing up liquid and water in a dilute solution first, and give them a rinse before polishing with the e-cloth.

Vinegar! Won't that make the whole house smell like a chippy's???

A good window cleaner?

Since we stopped having a window cleaner about 5 years ago, I've never cleaned them. Slut or what??

I haven't cleaned mine for ages too...

Myrrhcy · 30/12/2008 16:12

I just use vinegar and water and newspaper.

It's annoying when you have lots of small panes though

BlueSapphire77 · 30/12/2008 16:19

White vinegar and newspaper

I use hot soapy water though and when they're dry i put Mer polish on them n then 'wax on wax off' lol
Windowlene is also good but not as good as mer

Doing it twice takes ages though and i only have to do that cos i don't do mine till they're really minging

whoingodsnameami · 30/12/2008 16:21

I tried the newspaper thing a few weeks ago for the first time, and I was impressed, it really does work.

Cherrybaby · 30/12/2008 16:44

Mer polish.....makes note on shopping list

Well, I'm only doing it to impress the in-laws, as they have the faint idea that i'm a slob (it's true)

Same I tell my exIL that if they're that bothered maybe they aught to roll their sleeves up and get helping instead of moaning lol

Makes em go quiet

Anna8888 · 30/12/2008 20:21

Pay a professional window cleaner.

Fizzylemonade · 31/12/2008 13:28

Window cleaner for the outside but inside I put good old washing up liquid on a dish cloth, pop a bit of water on it then wash the window, squeegee off, then use microfibre cloth to mop up any drips down the sides.

I use to walk past all the professional window cleaners that did the huge shop windows on my way to work. They use the above but use a leather chamois instead of microfibre.

I can't do the vinegar thing as I can't stand the smell.

hidetheribbons · 31/12/2008 13:51

I use hot water, washing up liquid and an old tea towel. Dry with a J-cloth.

Must try the newspaper and vinegar method. How come the newspaper doesn't make the windows smeary?

PaulaatMummyKnowsBest · 01/01/2009 20:21

blue e cloth

you can get them at homebase
