Help! Washing machine not draining.

Lots of water sitting in the bottom of the drum (about a quarter full of water).

I have:

  • drained out water with front emergency draining hose
  • cleaned filter (not really dirty at all)
  • cleaned powder drawer (not sure why)
  • cleaned anything that could be cleaned (inside rim etc)
  • put it on a 90 degree wash to give it a good clean out ... at which point it filled up with water that won't drain out again.

Should I do something with the pipes/hoses at the back? Not convinced they actually come off though.

Any ideas very gratefully received.

It is a Zanussi machine and we're in a very hard water area, if that makes a difference.

If the fittings are already there it should be easyish and self explanitory

And yep, what a fucker letting you flood the kitchen. Bet he thought he was funny. Do you know where the stop tap is in the house xx

The Dull Witch - you probably saved yourself an expensive call out charge taking the decision to just get a new one. Only just seen this OP but exactly the same happened with our machine and the engineer came out and said it was either the engine (expensive) or the motherboard(even more expensive) or BOTH - either way it was cheaper to buy a brand new one and get the warranty a new machine provides or else fork out the the sme money on a new engine or motherboard only to find the thing died anyway a few months down the line.

When mine wasn't draining, DH took some pipes out and they were full of hair clips, money, wet wipes, hair and other stuff. Once this was cleared out it worked again. We now do this every 6 months and it has been fine.

Does anyone know how to drain washing machine without flooding kitchen? I

PigletJohn · 13/08/2015 16:45

yes

If it is a Bosch or similar, there is a small rubber tube next to the filter cap (it is intended for draining the pump before you take the cap off)

Otherwise, pull it out, and pull the grey rubber drain hose out of the drain pipe or sink trap that it is connected to. Slowly lower the end of the hose into the bucket you have put ready. When the end of the hose is lower than the water level, water will run out. You can eventually lie the hose flat on the floor for the last bit to run out.

It will not work if the hose is still raised up on the kitchen unit or a hook.

When you put it back, the grey hose ought to be looped up so the top of the loop is supported at worktop height. This prevents dirty water running back into the machine.

BTW see the red Zombie notice? You should start a new thread when you see it.

This happened to me recently, and the culprit was a coin. I found that out only after calling an engineer.
