Amtico versus other vinyl flooring

Following on from my earlier thread about vinyl flooring in a bathroom, can I get any old vinyl flooring instead of Amtico or are there any brands which are rubbish and should be avoided? A friend recommended Rhino flooring but I've no idea where to get any of it and was hoping to just go into a local carpet showroom and buy stuff there. Would that be a bad idea?

How does the cost compare to real wood?

CharlieBobsDad, I fear it is too late, we laid Caralium in November and now the grout has cracked in several places and the tiles are lifting. What do John Lewis's customers get by way of recourse...can it be re-stuck? I'd appreciate any advice you have before I contact Halls Flooring (we bought and installed ourselves). Thanks

we have Amtico fitted in our bathroom 12 years ago and it still looks fab 4 kids later.

The floors could be good, BUT BEWARE: the sample you see in the retailer may not be what you actually get fitted. Karndean change the finish and coatings on their products which causes the floors to have very different textures and appearances from the samples you used to choose your floor.

We ordered a Karndean floor after trying various samples in the room first. When the floor was fitted it had a dull finish and a "grainy" texture. It marks easily and quickly shows signs of use. It looks like the floor hasn't been finished properly. We raised the issue with Karndean, who refused to even acknowledge any issue, but simply informed us that a new PU coating had been applied that was not on the sample we had seen and that they "reserve the right to change patterns/textures without prior notification"!!!

So, if you want to guarantee that the floor you get is anything like the one you order, don't buy Karndean.

Another vote for Karndean here, I've both it and Amtico and I actually prefer Karndean, it's just as good quality, I prefer the designs it comes in and it's a lot cheaper :)

Anyone any advice RE Amtico and dogs? Is it paw proof/scratch resistant?

I am looking to purchase several new floors for various ares in my home. I want them to be easy to clean and anti bacterial. I have looked at both products on a company called www.floorbay.co.uk but I don't seem to be able to make a direct comparison. Have any other young mums had experience of either product. I would like it to keeps its appearance for as long as possible. Many thanks. Fee
