having had a few days of no washing over Christmas I now have a mountain to contend with. But not enough space to dry more than 2 loads a day.

SO

  1. How often do you use yours (ie every wash?)

  2. How long does it take to dry a load?

  3. Does it really cut down on ironing?

  4. Approximate cost per load (energy only not capital cost)

  5. do you have to be there when it is finished in order for it to help with ironing

Any other good/bad experiences - recommendations for makes/models.

We would be keeping it in the garage so would have to be a condensing one (I think)

THANKS in advance - hopefully we can get one in the january sales.

My condenser unit you just rinse under the tap, I do it once a month.

To defluff the door and little thing that lines the door closure you just wipe with your hand, easy peasy. I don't do anything difficult.

  1. How often do you use yours (ie every wash?)
Nearly every wash apart from delicates.

  2. How long does it take to dry a load?
    Just over an hour.

  3. Does it really cut down on ironing?
Yes, that's why we got it.

  4. Approximate cost per load (energy only not capital cost)
    Couldn't care less but I estimate 40p.

  5. do you have to be there when it is finished in order for it to help with ironing
Ideally yes, ours has a discreet alarm which helps.

Isn't the not-ironing thing more to do with getting clothes out of the ashing machine quickly, not out of the drier?

VirginBoffinMum · 29/12/2008 18:05

It gets rid of more wrinkles than just getting them out of the WM.

I got an indesit condenser about a year ago & keep it in the garage. I try to use it only for things like sheets/duvet covers, towels, undies - have found that a full load takes about 1hr 40 mins, longer if it is just towels. Thought this was a lot, but sounds about right from this thread. Think I maybe tend to over-dry as stuff is quite wrinkled when it comes out. Am going to try cleaning the condenser unit more often if it will make it more efficient.

at the moment 90% of washes

  1. How long does it take to dry a load?

about 45 mins

  1. Does it really cut down on ironing?

No

  1. Approximate cost per load (energy only not capital cost)

don't know, sorry

  1. do you have to be there when it is finished in order for it to help with ironing

aidansyummymummy · 04/01/2009 11:07

OP have you decided on getting one yet?

I have a copy of the latest which report if and if you want to tell me your budget/requirements I can tell you which one may be suitable

  1. How often do you use yours

-In the winter I use it to dry heavy things such as jeans, sweatshirts & towels and also large things like duvet covers and bottom sheets. I probably use it, on average every second wash, half full.

  1. How long does it take to dry a load?

-A load of around 5 pairs of adult jeans takes around an hour (as others have said, it can take 3x as long if I've not rinsed the condenser unit, it makes an enormous difference). I also find that using a pair those spiky dryer balls helps the load dry faster (mine were from the pound shop !).

  1. Does it really cut down on ironing?

-I don't iron everything anyway so I'm not the one to ask.

  1. Approximate cost per load (energy only not capital cost)

-Not a clue! But it is a class C for efficiency.

  1. do you have to be there when it is finished in order for it to help with ironing

-See 3)

I have a basic Hotpoint condenser one, it was about £180 from Apollo. It has a reverse action. It is perfectly fine so long as I keep on top of clearing the fluff filters, rinsing the condenser unit and emptying the water collection thingummy.

NomDePlume · 04/01/2009 11:26

BTW, doing those little maintenance jobs takes about 5 mins all in.

  1. How often do you use yours (ie every wash?) I put mine on a clothes horse and or hang out on the line. Often the moisture blows out and reduces drying time.

  2. How long does it take to dry a load?

If you put it straight in from the machine I think it takes an hour to hour and a half

  1. Does it really cut down on ironing?

Im a slattern and never ever Iron, but actually i suppose it does cut down if you were to iron, especially if you shake it out and hang up or fold away

  1. Approximate cost per load (energy only not capital cost)
    No idea sorry!

  2. do you have to be there when it is finished in order for it to help with ironing

My machine is never on when Im not at home

Any other good/bad experiences - recommendations for makes/models.
the domestic goddess in my fmaily like white knight vented ones....i have a very old given to me vented hotpoint one and have been looking at replacements. I will prob go for a condensor one as I have to leave my window and door open when my current machine is on which is not ideal and it would be nice not to have a draft blowing through the house in the evening! LOL

I would say £150 for a vented on and £250 for the condensor one.

Let me know if you wanna know best buys etc from which report...they also review the best sellers which incidently are not always the best ones to buy

We would be keeping it in the garage so would have to be a condensing one (I think)

THANKS in advance - hopefully we can get one in the january sales.
