Can mattresses be washed (to get sick out)?

This is how I have just learnt I need to get some kind of mattress protector cover...

DD has been sick on her cot bed mattress overnight. The mattress stinks, and I didnt have a cover on it, other than sheets. I have tried just wiping it with a damp cloth, no help. Is it ok to just wash it in a hot bath? Will it take days to dry? Or do I need to buy a new one?

DD seems fine now btw!

Thank you in advance for advice...

No idea sorry. Check if it has a label sewn into the seam? I personally wouldn't submerge it, it might be impossible to dry out. I would get some type of carpet/upholstery cleaner (such as vanish mousse) and apply that a few times.

Also remember that sicky smells really linger, especially while still damp. I would maybe do 2-3 applications of mousse, give a good rinse with warm water (keep changing the water) then smell again when properly dry.

To dry it quicker, get a dry towel and press it firmly all over the area, dry near a radiator if possible.

I'll try that then. Maybe its better not to actually wash it then in the bath. Right, better get to it, thanks for your advice.

Not that Ive ever used it but try plenty of bicarb and a damp sponge - shold reduce the odour and clean at the same time - seems always to be the answer on various forums around the place!!

I have successfully used a dilute solution of washing up liquid and water to start the process off, and then sprayed the whole area liberally with Febreze and let it dry.

Any luck ddb?

It is probably just me but I definately wouldn't use something like Vanish on the mattress - not worried about the mattress but your dd sleeping on it afterwards.
