Does anyone have an anti-dust mite protector for their mattress? Like this?

(told you it was dull)

Is yours waterproof and is if so it noisy to sleep in?

(God I'm sorry - I'm bored already !)

It's the dustmites that keep you warm

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 22:25

Huw, how on earth did you manage to make this thread interesting? The Beeb clearly don't pay you enough!

I just play to my strengths, Mrs M

So...let's talk dust mites!

Can you belive that nobody has taken the time to review this on the Debenhams website. Are they all out having lives or something?

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 23:01

God, I can't imagine, Babsie. Beats me.

Right, I have no life and so shall reply to your op

We did once trial one of these mattress protectors and pillow protectors too, the waterproof ones - as my cat kept peeing on the bed (nice). They were noisy and very irritating....they weren't from Debenhams though

BarbaraWoodlouse · 18/12/2008 23:11

Phew, I'm so glad you finally got a sensible answer MrsMH. I can go to my dust mite ridden bed now with a clear conscience

Washersaurus · 18/12/2008 23:17

I killed the cat and removed the covers - it is dustmite heaven here these days!

PS. I didn't really kill the cat, but she isn't allowed upstairs anymore.

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 23:17

Hurraaaaahhh! You can have a kiss on the cheek, Washer. I thank you...and I thank you.

(think I'll stick to the warming mites, too!)

Can I add sweaty-making to your list of why-nots please

Dragonbrandybutter · 18/12/2008 23:19

does the protector protect the dustmites from you though? poor things.

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 23:34

Oy, brandybutter - watch it or I'll take my festive wink back!

Oh no, I am truly dull.

I have a waterproof mattress protector. It is a tencel one so no rustling. I got it on-line at snug nights.

I have the waterproof tencel thing on the bed and then a slightly padded mattress protector sheet as my mattress has buttony things on it that we can feel through just a normal sheet.

Then I have a normal fitted sheet.

I will say that we rarely wash our tencel thing but I have washed my son's several times due to bed wetting BUT it has shrunk slightly, not the tencel area but the normal un-treated fabric at the sides so it goes over the corners of the mattress but doesn't cover the sides as it used to it rides up but never pings off

In my defence I was diagnosed with post-viral asthma so went a bit mad on the cleaning front as my asthma was worse at night.

Fizzylemonade · 21/12/2008 09:14

I would like to say that after reading this how do I get sick out of a mattress that the waterproof sheet is a very good idea.

My son threw up when we were in Center Parcs and luckily we had put his waterproof sheet on the bed otherwise he wouldn't have been able to sleep in that bed that night. (we used a PVC type one for holidays so that we can wipe it down rather than wash it)
