Cleaning my washing machine

My washing machine works quite well but it really could do with an internal clean. The powder drawer is disgusting and I have never run anything through the cycle to clean the entire machine. How can I do this cheaply? Have a feint idea that a cup of white vinegar put somewhere will do it. Or is it soda crystals. Or is it an empty boil wash? I'm relying on all you domestic goddesses to help me out here!

There was something the other week about this.

People recommend doing a high temp wash with wash powder.

You can buy a cleaning kit from Asda for about £3 ish.

it's a cup of soda crystals on a hot wash first, followed by a cup of white vinegar and another hot wash.

or you can buy a product called Service It in your supermarket or HG Service Engineer from Lakeland.

I take the powder drawer out of mine and clean it in hot water in my bath. It's just gunge that washes away. I've heard that vinegar works to clean the machine out, and also boil washing with no clothes in.

Also, I find that the door seal tends to collect the most gunge.

put the powder drawer in the dishwasher to clean it out.

Thank you WingsofaChristmastreefairy - have just had a good look back through the posts and found a good one about this a few weeks ago. Great minds and all that!

I just put it on the hotest wash with lots of vinegar. And for the tray, just take it out and wash it like you would your dishes. My tray needs a clean actually. Might use DDs bathwater when she has had her bath
