Lakeland - recommendations - good and bad

I keep getting Lakeland catalogues in the post, leafing through and ticking what I would like - which amounts to something on every page. In the past I've only bought three things - quick clips and Jumbo Klippits which were great; stayfresh longer bags which were not great and a pain to wash and find places in my small kitchen for them to dry and Water Stop Gloves which looked and felt lovely but caused me to discover that I am allergic to latex.

What are your recommendations, good and bad?

The herb keeper thing is good.

The bread bag not so good.

Umm will have a think of what else.

fionaann · 03/12/2008 11:27

Any more recommendations? I thought Lakeland would be a major interest for people on this thread - or does it/should it have its own thread??

Claire - thanks - the herb keeper looks good. Was looking at dish drainers for my sister who has a small draining board but they seem to have poor reviews and a tendency to rust.

Ooooh the thing that you use to clean your washing machine gets my vote (Service Engineer?) and of course, the Remoska, the ultimate Lakeland product! Don't get me started on the Remoska...

VoluptuaGoodshag · 03/12/2008 12:20

Stuff is lovely but pricey. I spotted lovely lavender wheat hot [water] bottles in the shop for £15 but The Works was selling the exact same thing for £4. Not as fancily packaged but who needs the extra packaging!

peasholme · 03/12/2008 12:22

Agree about the pricing VG especially on the gifty stuff

MrsBadger · 03/12/2008 12:22

the microfibre cloth floor mop thing - not as good as a broom when it comes to crumbs but ace fo rmopping
and the heads go in the machine

Both the Peely Bins (original and replacement) have had lids that didn;t fit though - bin obv been bashed in transit and no longer perfectly round

dryer balls v good but make an awful noise

MarmadukeScarlet · 03/12/2008 12:40

Unger window washing equipment is very sturdy for those that do their own.

I love my herb keeper.

I also have a microfibre floor mop thing with washable heads, essential for wooden floors I'd say. When barely damp will picj up allsorts.

god i love lakeland!! i live near one which is not a good thing.

lock and lock is great,
lavender wool wash is nice and smells better than most other wool wash stuff.
the 'my kitchen' range of stuff is ok and doesn't warp but the non-stick on it is rubbish and not easy to clean.
i have often found their stuff cheaper else where, but their returns policy is second to none

fionaann · 03/12/2008 13:39

heather - can I ask where else you have found their stuff cheaper and was it exactly the same stuff?

I lurve Lakeland too - and we have one here.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 03/12/2008 13:54

mini whisks - I have two and use them all the time. They are the key to a lumpless bechamel sauce (and anything else started with a roux).

Delia spatula, have 3 of those - best on the market. Last for years (even the one dd2 bit a chunk out of when she was little ...)

Have had my cheese keeper for years (dh cheese fanatic). Also excellent.

Only thing I've really not been happy with is the heavy duty baking tray. They are double thickness and have drainage holes in them which leak rusty water. But when I told them about it in one of their customer surveys, they just sent me another one, bless them. I've kept them both and learned to live with the drips!

thenewme · 03/12/2008 13:55

The service is the best out of everywhere.

About to do another order.

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 04/12/2008 12:22

I love the Lakeland catalogues but have never bought anything from there so would also love some recommendations.

FifiForgot · 04/12/2008 22:26

The strawberry liquorice is the BEST! I have to limit myself to one bag at a time otherwise I sit and eat my way through bags at a time! Lock and Lock stuff is also great (it doesn't leak despite DD's best efforts) and the clipit clips are really handy. The tinfoil and clingfilm with the integrated blades is just fab and lasts forever.

I love Lakeland and could spend an absolute fortune. Its just as well we don't have one around here, I have to go to the In Laws to get to one.

nobodysfool · 04/12/2008 22:29

I second the liquorice in all flavours - and i dont even like traditional liquorice!

ClaireDeLoon · 04/12/2008 22:33

It isn't only lakeland that do lock and lock - I have seen it waitrose food and home at Canary Wharf plus in my local pound shop! I mean the proper branded lock and lock stuff.

PigeonPie · 04/12/2008 22:39

We've just got a new store opened near us. I seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time in there lately - although not as much as my friend who now works there!

I've recently bought the dehumidifier 'eggs' which seem to be working in DS1 and 2's bedrooms and the Weigh and Store bags for putting veg in at the greengrocer/ supermarket instead of plastic bags are just fab and you get extra eco points in Tesco for using them (according to my DSister).

I'm sure there are lots of other things but I can't think at the moment.

stealthsquiggle · 04/12/2008 22:42

Stacking cooling rack. My friend bought it for me for my b'day. I was as as DH was . It's fab.

Multisize cake tin

Silicone muffin tins

(can you tell I tend to linger somewhat in the baking section ?)

PigeonPie · 04/12/2008 22:45

Ooo, ooh, and the Magic Carpet Sheet instead of baking parchment (although theirs is superior to anything else I've bought) is just great - no more greasing tins and baking sheets - biscuits just slide off!

stealthsquiggle · 04/12/2008 22:50

..and the oven liner.

PigeonPie · 04/12/2008 22:56

Actually I'm afraid I don't rate the oven liner. We've got a fan oven and it just kept blowing out of the oven so I took it out. Should have taken it back but just put it down to experience.

stealthsquiggle · 04/12/2008 23:01

We have a fan oven and it has been great [puzzled]

aidansyummymummy · 04/12/2008 23:28

I love the mircowave bowl with lid and whisk...perfect for scrambled egss, custard beans.

Not so keen on the multi steamer as too big for my microwave...still usable but have to wrestle lid on and off before removing rest of steamer. However it does make fantastic rice!
