Lakeland Vegetable cushion & onion/potatoe bag

Lakeland has this knack of making me need to buy things that are just a total gimmick.

After another Sunday throwing food in the bin I decided to look on lakeland for some inspiration in keeping food fresher for longer.

Does anyone know if the Veggie cushion and the preserving bags are any good?

bugger! At time like this it would be so much easier to have a mini farm in the garden

I had the potato bag - was quite good at disguising the smell of the rotting potatos in the bag but no good at preserving them!

Bear in mind if you are buying spuds from a supermarket they are probably up to a year old and will have been in a plastic bag in various temperatures for about six weeks before you get them - it's no wonder they go off quickly!

double bugger. Does lakeland actually sell anything that works as well as claimed?

When you buy pre-packed salad (eg. lettuce leaves, toms etc) do you reckon it's better to keep it in plastic packets or out of them so they can breathe?

I am just sick to death of throwing away food, it seems like it goes off within 2/3 days of being in my flat and we batch cook and freeze all our evenings meals it'd be nice to have some non mouldy veggies and salad too.

We both work very long hours so picking up fruit, veg and salad more than once a week is out of the question.

I bought some clips for bags which were very good and they helped. Out of plastic for everything bar salad (which is bagged with gas in the bag to keep it fresh so you really want to open it quick, get the bits out you want and then either reseal it with a heat sealer or with a clip.

navyeyelasH · 30/11/2008 19:30

are the clips those colourful ones in all different sizes? I really ought to get some, they do them in ikea too.

Do you reckon you can freeze raw uncooked veg? [desperate emotion]

the spud and onion bags are good. I detest keeping spuds in the fridge so this helps.

Betterware do the same cotton bags as lakeland and a also do bigger potato sack/bag. I like it for keeping potatoes from going green

They don't seem to do them anymore but weirdly they were made by Oxo . They have a range of clips in there from little to really big. But a few bulldog clips would do the job!
