my front door opens straight into the hall which is the width of the door i.e; no space either side of the door. its really draughty and if winds are strong my living room door even blows open. i want to put a curtain up to help with the draughts but my dad has said that if i put up a pole that the holding brackets at the end that opens will prevent curtain covering draughty bit and that because theres no space to the sides that when curtain is pulled back, the door wont open fully and will pull on curtain and envitably pull curtain pole down. now if that makes any sense at all does anybody have any suggestions as to what i can do.? TIA

You could look at Rising Portieres. There was a thread all about door curtains somewhere and I added this info. Its a curtain pole that can lift the curtain as the door opens, They can be fitted inside the door frame-mine is.

Our hall is much like yours. We just fixed a pole above the door (between the door and the window above it). It works fine - the curtain covers the potential draught above the door and at each side. I guess it's true that the door doesn't open fully when the curtain's pulled back but it certainly opens far enough - we didn't used to fling the door back against the wall even before we had the curtain!

It was a good investment for us - it's made the hall and sitting room much warmer!
