What is the constant pool of water at the bottom of the inside of my fridge about?

Last one never did this. I have no idea.

Is the self defrosting thingy blocked? My fridge has little holes at the back for the melt water to run out of, if they are blocked then the water will just gather at the bottom of the fridge.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 11:11

I don't know. I don't think it is self defrosting. There's a hole on the inside for something though, it doesn't look blocked. It is normally crammed so maybe It's this?

Your seal may be broken. Had this problem myself and had to buy a new one . Take everything out and give it a good clean- if still no joy then you'll have to pop to Comet. Or John Lewis are doing a nice Bosh f.freezer for £400 with 4 yrs free warranty and free delivery - my new purchase!

It's a new fridge! I've had it a year so I hope not. I'm not sure if I have the temp right. Can this cause pooling?

Check the seal. Ours does this because the seal is broken (Bosch one, done this since 2 years old and just out of guarantee ).

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 11:27

I'll go and have a look.

The seal is intact, I can't feel any cold air around the side. What else should I be looking for?

Holes or tears in the folds?

ohdearwhatamess · 16/11/2008 11:36

Is there plenty of room for air to circulate at the back? Could there be any dust on the motor (or whatever it is called) at the back?

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 11:36

Nope. I can't reach the top though because the fridge is huge but I've ran my hand over and there's nothing escaping.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 11:38

It's not too close to the wall. I can't pull it out to check the motor because it's huge! It's all covered though (as in not exposed). I think it's got too much in it and I don't have the temperature right.

I had this problem for ages, but I've fixed it now!

It was the trap at the back. There's a little shelf thing with a hole where the drips collect.

I asked my dh if this could be the problem, but he said "no, it won't be that". So I kept mopping out for ages. In the end I ignored his advice and stuck a wooden skewer in the hole and waggled it round a bit. There was a bit of a gurgle and it has never collected water in the bottom of the fridge again!

And to think that dh inspects aircraft for a living!

BlueBumedFly · 16/11/2008 14:18

LOL girlandboy - that is the last time I fly!!

We had this too, its the water trap! Just get a q-tip and poke it in the hole, I found it quite gross and was rather upset with myself about letting the fridge get so clogged so I blamed it on DH and now I feel much better!

whomovedmychocolate · 16/11/2008 14:20

Phantom - mine was doing that and I discovered it was because it wasn't balanced correctly and was at a 3 degree angle, I adjusted the feet and lo and behold no more puddling. But do clear up all the water before it gets icky!

onepieceoflollipop · 16/11/2008 14:26

Agree with girlandboy. All it takes is an odd crumb of something to get stuck in the little hole, and it gets blocked very easily.
Fly it could happen in the sparkliest cleanest of fridges, a little morsel of clean meat or cheese or anything really.

Happened to us once when the fridge was almost new; never happened again.

BlueBumedFly · 16/11/2008 14:31

Onepiece - thanks hun

Fly scuttles off to clean the fridge.... now where did I put that cheese....

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 18:09

The hole had a little gunk inside so I poked a chopstick into it so I'll see if it does the trick. Was gross though! Where does the water go when it's gone down the hole and where does it come from??

Thanks for the help. I feel a bit sick now though.

Most new fridges come with a little plastic stick especially for poking down the drain.

Bet it is lurking with the paperwork in the back of a kitchen drawer somewhere.

Or is that just my house?

UnfortunatelyMe · 16/11/2008 18:13

Theres a tray at the back of the fridge that is VILE. I emptied mine, and unplugged little hole, and its stopped being so wet now.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 16/11/2008 18:14

Ohh, that's what that's for!
