Getting a washing machine repaired

Our Bosch washing machine (out of guarantee, came with the house but I think is only a few years old) has developed a fault where at the end of the wash cycle the door won't open unless you put the spin cycle on again (sometimes you need to spin again just once, sometimes repeatedly). Sometimes that doesn't work either but using the drain function then spinning again does.

Has anyone ever had any success with getting a washing machine repaired, or is trying to do so a waste of time and money and we would be better off just getting a new one?

If the latter, does anyone have any recommendations for specific models/brands, or ones to avoid?

Thanks!

Mine is a year old and the other day a pair of my huge knickers got stuck in the drum and caused the whole machine to sieze up completely.

We called out a repair man and after about an hour of tugging at my pants he fixed it for £30.

Far cheaper than buying a new one.

If you use an independent guy then he may well come out and have a look and give you a quote before he does any work on it and you can make the decision then.

Thanks, MS, that's a huge help. Now I just need to find someone to do it! Thanks again.
