FLY Housekeeping Babysteps day one and Two

TheMadHouse · 12/11/2008 18:33

Hello all

We have a number of people who want to get on the Fly wagon, so I though that it would be an idea to do a babysteps group, but rather than one step a day, do two.

So all set for tomorrow

shine your sink

get up and dressed

Hello, and welcome to anyone knew who comes along

TheMadHouse · 12/11/2008 19:06

You have to be prepared to do these steps tonight really. I do aim to get dressed before I come downstairs, but it doesnt always work. So I will ensure that I am dressed before coming down - but no shoes though - they stay by the door

What's FLY, please?

funnypeculiar · 12/11/2008 19:09

Humm, I want to do thie again (third time lucky ?) but don't think I'll make it for the next few days ... will keep an eye out for threads & aim to get involved at some point...

funnypeculiar · 12/11/2008 19:10

OK - fly is a system for getting on top of and keeping on top of your home.

The website is very somewhat american, but if you can see past that it is an excellent way of setting up a system that suits you to keep things in a semblance of order.

My house was a mess, I have two preschool boys and I was finding that everything was getting on top of me.

Fly encourages you to break things down in to 15 minute chunks, to clear the clutter before you expect to keep on top of things and to develope daily, weekly and periodic routines to keep on top of things.

The babysteps gets you into it, there are daily missions (weekdays) which we post of the main fly thread.

I am a bit of a fly evangelist, as it has made a hugh differnce to me. The first 30 days (15 days) with the system were hard work, but no I have a pretty clean house. I have time with the boys too and I dont worry. Even DH has a routine of things that he does too (cats litter, bins, dishwasher etc)

Thank-you, funnypeculiar and TheMadHouse - I'll take a look at that site later - but now I ought to go and make the dumplings to go in tonight's supper.

MyDingaling · 12/11/2008 19:38

I am going to join this to try to keep on top of things. I have been reading the other thread and i really like the idea of writing down some things that i want to do everyday and start to develop a routine. Hhave foud a timer so I am ready to go!!

LavenderTea · 12/11/2008 19:43

Oh Mad this is great of you. Are you going to be like our fly tutor....??
I'm sorted with the shiny sink and dressed bit, but mind if I jump between the two threads please... Think it would help me...

hippipotami · 12/11/2008 19:48

Yes please, can I join? I have joined FLY a few times over the past few years, but have never started at the start with the babysteps (too impatient adn no-one else was doing the baby steps so I lost interest )

So, sink was done after I did the dishes tonight (see, some things 'stuck' ) but will have a read to see what 'get up and dressed' requires me to do tonight.

Thanks for setting this one up Madhouse, please dont' let me fall off the wagon this time [pleading emoticon]

LavenderTea · 12/11/2008 20:01

Wow hello hippi... You are early with dishes and sink. I'm
We haven't even eaten yet.

Looking forward to sharing steps with you.

hippipotami · 12/11/2008 20:05

Hello

Dh usually finishes work early (usually 5pm), and the dc are aged 5 and 9, so we all eat together at 6.30. I do the dishes (by hand, have no dishwasher, sob) straight after so that then I can turn my back on the kitchen and relax

LavenderTea · 12/11/2008 20:15

oooh sounds lovely... My dh doesn't finish work till late. We usually eat after dc in bed and can't turn my back on kitchen till at least 9pm and no dishwasher either, though dh is usually pretty good at dishes and sometimes shines sink too...tonight he is even cooking so I am here secretly shhhhhh

OP posts:
TheMadHouse · 12/11/2008 20:33

Trinity Small steps.

Washer on. Sort three piles, darks, whites and lights and keep on washing. I have two baskets, one for lights and one for whites and just shove the darks straight in to the washer.

Pen and Paper - write it all down (I have to my brain is mush)

We can all do this together

I think I have a top somewhere bo jumper or knickers and the top is a vest top

I stink and my hair needs washing so what is the point of clean clothes
washer is on and full of kids clothes

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 12/11/2008 20:36

My DP has just gone to collect a full (15 man) football kit from a ebay seller.

Think what my washing pile is going to be like for the next few days

TheMadHouse · 12/11/2008 20:39

Trinity Then have a bath or a shower. Dont think about it, as you will only get anxious - just do it

OP posts:
hippipotami · 12/11/2008 21:00

Oh yes, pen and paper!! I am a compuslive list maker (don't always do everything on teh list mind) but it does help.

Trinity - don't worry, we are here
Make some piles of washing on the floor in order of urgency. Stick one load on now, they can dry overnight as much as possible.
Then stick a second one in tomorrow.

Dusting and hoovering and general tidying is my downfall. Sink shining is okay, and I do a load of laundry every day too. But the dustbunnies are growing into dust elephants and ds has actually written 'hello' into the dust on the tv

AnneOfAvonlea · 12/11/2008 21:01

Mad - about to watch Heroes but will help you be stern tomorrow

swottybetty · 12/11/2008 21:27

ooooh, spooky. i just revisted the fly site the other day with a view to giving it another go. first time round i signed up, shined sink once and then spent the next eighteen months cursing the clutter created in my inbox .

unjoined and rejoined last week. am at that 'orrid bit of early preg that leaves you floored with exhaustion, so the last week i have just been trying to be a bit better rather than be too fly. my sink has been cleaner, if not clean, and that getting dressed thing makes me feel loads better. saying bye to dh while feeding dd in morning WHILE LOOKING OK! unheard of before
