My hoover has just died after 15 YEARS, I have never bought a hoover before, any recommendations?

We got our cheapy vacuum cleaner from DH's aunt when we moved into our new flat. I has lasted an amazing 15 years, although it was not overworked as I am not a überhausfrau.

The choice of vacuums is a bit overwhelming, we have hardwood floors, no carpets. Any recommendations?

Another vote for SEBO here-bloody fantastic-pulls you along behind it

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 11:23

Hmm, after a quick google, I was impressed by the Sebo, if it good enough for Michelle Obama then it is good enough for me.

But, they don't seem to sell them here

So it looks like a Miele then. Do you think that one of the less expensive ones should be ok for our wooden floor, no pet household?

Miele definitely - my last one lasted more than 15 years - my mom bought it and gave it to us when they moved to the USA.

My new(er) Miele is still going strong after about 5 years and I love it. We have a dog that sheds loads and it can cope fine.

Gipfeli · 11/11/2008 11:50

I think you can get a Sebo in CH, try here, but it's not a common brand. Miele is of course. We have a Miele which has been going fine for about 13 years, although ours also does not suffer from overwork

I also want a Roomba but as you say, they are stupidly expensive here.

This one is really really good at picking up, easy and quick to get in/out hose, everything really :

Have been through 2 Dysons in 6 years - would never buy another. Have just bought a Cat and Dog Miele and it's fab!

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 12:17

Gipfeli
Thanks, but it cost over 700chf . I don't use it enough to justify that amount of money.

Found a good deal on a Miele, will just have to hide it from DH as he knows what they cost

Yes, well I thought it seemed a lot but have no idea what the going price for a hoover is really. I may also have been in CH too long and lost touch with what are reasonable prices for things.

overbuurvrouw · 11/11/2008 12:22

Miele or Meile or Meile.

Bramshott · 11/11/2008 12:29

I have a Bosch something (BX3 maybe) and it's CRAP! I was surprised, as I've liked Bosch stuff in the past, but this machine is seriously useless!

TheGoat · 11/11/2008 12:35

henry

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 12:37

lol Gipfeli, I am starting to get like that after 6 weeks

Put it this way, I could get a Miele both floors of the house for the price of the Sebo.

Mrs Lindt - hope you are enjoying Switzerland. I grew up there and loved it - a fantastic place for children. Where are you living?

Anna8888 · 12/11/2008 10:17

I have all hardwood floors, with some quite large gaps between the parquet pieces (parquet is 80 years old). I LOVE my Dyson All Floors - it has sucked up all the crap that wasn't shifting with my old Miele.

MmeLindt · 28/04/2009 22:23

Just noticed that this thread is linked to the Miele website. Thought I should mention that I did indeed buy a Miele and it is fab.

Another vote for a Henry here.

Although we got a Hetty as it was cheaper.

But it is fab

gibbberish · 28/04/2009 22:27

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Henry.

And he has such a happy little face I talk to him while I pull him around the house.

simpson · 28/04/2009 22:31

LOL at the happy little face

My 15mth old DD loves opening the airing cupboard and waving at it!!

gibbberish · 28/04/2009 22:34

We all talk to him like he is a real little person

The girls wanted me to get a Hetty but I thought dh would prefer the male company (4 dds in this house)

FrankMustard · 28/04/2009 22:34

SEBO for me every time. How I love that hoover.......

simpson · 28/04/2009 22:35

ROFL at Henry being another male in house

Sorry you have made me spit tea on keyboard

gibbberish · 28/04/2009 22:38

lol

Should have got a Hetty anyway. dh spends VERY little time with him...

MmeLindt · 28/04/2009 22:38
