Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!

So the dilemma is: do I pay to get it fixed, or do I buy one of those intriguing tornado things?

Will they be adequate for the copious amount of laundry I do? Can I live without my tumble drier or not?

what is a tornado?
can you go to the launderette?

girlandboy · 07/11/2008 12:17

Tornado????? What?????

Launderette near you???

If tumble drier fixable, then get it fixed. Just think of all the cold, wet winter days to come.

But what IS a tornado??

TheProvincialLady · 07/11/2008 12:19

No idea what a tornado thing is but can highly recommend service wash at your local launderette. It's what i always do when we have a sick bug.

cupsoftea · 07/11/2008 12:19

awful - agree with the launderette but difficult with sick kids.

LittleWhizzingBella · 07/11/2008 12:28

Here is the mysterious tornado:

can't do launderette today, DD to ill to go out.

I wondered if tornado might be cheaper option than tumble dryer. But am also thinking it's prob. not adequate

I think I would rather have a new tumble drier, or the old one fixed, than that wierdy tornado thingy. It looks a bit scary!

weebleswobble · 07/11/2008 12:33

Wouldn't you get hanger marks on the shoulders of the clothes in the Tornedo? It looks interesting, but that would be my concern.

cupsoftea · 07/11/2008 12:35

I get a virus warning when I click that link Bella

SaintGeorge · 07/11/2008 12:42

What is wrong with the drier?

Has it stopped working mid-load today?

Are you sure it isn't just overworked and overheated?

Some models have reset buttons.

LittleWhizzingBella · 07/11/2008 12:52

It's still blowing hot air, but the drum's not going round

OP posts:
cremolafoam · 07/11/2008 13:00

get evrything washed
turn on heating
fold bed clothes and drape on radiators
keep an eye on them and turn every 30 minutes
other suggestion is to hang them oven curtain poles with the windows open

LittleWhizzingBella · 07/11/2008 13:52

ok am doing that

cheers

I would beg ask a neighbour of I could use theirs as a one-off just to sort out the bedding.

We used our neighbours washing machine for 2 weeks whilst waiting for a new one , and shes used ours when in the same situation

Rhubarb · 07/11/2008 13:57

Do you not have a washing line? It's windy but dry here, ideal conditions for drying sheets.

OrmIrian · 07/11/2008 13:58

Haven't you got lovely drying weather atm? It's gorgeous here.

Our tumbler drier died in the spring and I haven't replaced it. We use some airers when the weather is wet. Seems to be OK.

Rhubarb · 07/11/2008 13:58

(we don't have a tumble dryer)

hiccymapops · 07/11/2008 14:05

I'd have to ask a neighbour too, while i ordered another tumble dryer. Mine didn't work at the weekend, and i had a panic attack till my husband realised the fuse had blown I didn't know how attached i'd become to it! My head would've gone with poorly little ones and all the duvets to wash. You have my sympathy

Fizzylemonade · 11/11/2008 18:13

if the drum isn't turning it will be the drive belt.

It would depend how old your drier is on whether you go for a repair or a new one. We had white knight that lasted years, drum didn't turn, we bought belt as we knew that was what it would be, I removed every screw and we still couldn't get to the belt inside.

We admitted defeat, it was mid December so we could not get a delivery for love nor money. I had a 6 month old baby, there was no way I was going to be without a tumble drier as he had reflux so threw up alot over his clothes.

We bought a new AEG condensor all singing all dancing one from John Lewis, they were open till 10pm so we went and collected it!!!! It was 60 miles away

If money and space were no object I would be buying this drying cabinet, my friend works in a theatre and they have one for all the costumes

here

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 18:17

Can someone tell me what the tornado is as I get a virus warning when opening the link.

I would get a new drier if it cannot be repaired, I could not do without mine. Hope it can be fixed though.

dsrplus8 · 11/11/2008 22:28

unsrew the back of your tumble dryer and check the heating eliment , if soggy dry with hairdryer, take top of dryer look for drive belt if its broken/ loose the drum wont spin. if thats ok and the dryer still wont spin it could be the motor that needs an enginear to replace, also check for bra wires catching the drum, notorious for buggering up tumbles and washers.

LittleBella · 11/11/2008 23:34

ooh thank you will do that tomorrow.

Have constructed a poor man's airing cupboard - got my convector heater below a square rail, draped duvets all round it and hung clothes in it - it has worked a treat!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 11/11/2008 23:37

don't forget hanging over the top of doors, and over the landing rail (if you have one)
