stupid dishwasher

We have a problem with our dishwasher, its an AEG one andkeeps coming up with a C5 message, which is basically the flood prevention shut off coming on...
So when it first happened I looked on here and did a search, and read that it could be a kinked pipe, so pulled it out, and tilted it and it was fine. Today it ONLY works if it is tilted, so I have a plank under one side

What do you rekon is causing this then?

Crap in the pipe? Our dishwasher shows the 'rinse aid' light whenever the dishwasher needs running through empty to clean it.

This is a longshot, but two of my dishwashers have seemed 'broken' because they wouldn't drain properly. After looking for kinks in the pipe and blockages we found out we didn't have the outlet pipe high enough - it needs to be as high if not higher than the dishwasher itself (about 2.5 feet) so that the water will drain properly. Ours was only hooked up at about 1.5 feet.

Worth looking into.

I was wondering about putting in soda crystals on a hot wash to clean the pipe....

As you have got the thing to work again by by tilting it, I'd say this is actually quite likely. If this is the case you need to completely empty all of the water out of the dishwasher (by tilting, scooping ect) and then reseting it again.

Spaceman · 05/11/2008 21:27

Sorry Gerald, we crossed. When I say quite likely I mean it does sound as though the outlet pipe isn't high enough.

I tried the soda crystal thing. If it's a blockage it may well work.

Something somewhere is leaking, causing the float switch to operate. Or the float switch is faulty and giving a false positive.
Tilting it to me would imply that there is water in there somewhere, which once tipped deactivates the float switch.
How old is it? If 10years+ consider a new machine. If younger, investigate cost of engineer taking a look.

Ahhh, the waste pipe is about level with the top of the machine, and directly under the worktop, so how do I resolve that thanks for the suggestions spaceman, sounds likely that might be the problem.....although it has been perfectly working for 3 years and i would have thought this would have happened before if it were the culprit?
Thanks nannynick, (is there no end to your wisdom? Am always reading your spot on advice in Childminders!) i dont know how old it is, because it came with our house which we moved into 3 years ago. Im guessing younger than ten years though.......
Ok, Im going to try running hot wash with soda crystals, and then get a man out if that fails, luckily we pay cover to british gas so it wont cost us anything to get them out, just wanted to see if I could solve it myself in manner of Strong Clever Modern Woman LOL
