I have tried bleach on an old toothbrush, mould & mildew spray , flash bathroom and cif but can't seem to shift it.

My mums coming to stay next week and I don't want her thinking I'm a scumbag!

scrap it out till white and regrout if the mold preparations you have used as per instructed haven't sorted it.

Romy7 · 31/10/2008 18:02

you can buy white pens to paint over it if you can't be bothered with that...

it ain't going anywhere, you have to get rid or cover it up... whoever invented white grout anyway...

QueenofAllWildThings · 31/10/2008 18:17

LOL! Just laughing at the thought of being thought a scumbag by your mum... my mum is MUCH more of a scumbag than me, house-wise When I go to her house I'm always tutting.

I'd go with the grout 'tippex' personally.

Miggsie · 31/10/2008 18:24

you can buy mould killer spray.
HG make it and Lakeland sell it...I use it on the bathroom ceiling!!!!!
They also sell the grout whitener and a special grout scrubbing brush so I think this is a common problem!
I expect your mum shops at Lakeland

neat bleach, leave it for a few hours before rinsing off

Salleroo · 31/10/2008 18:42

I had this on the sealant and some of the grout and tried all of the above with no luck and then found out about Dettox mould and mildew spray, about £1 in all big supermarkets. It is the buisness!!!

Spray it on, leave for 30 mins, rinse down. Repeat. You wont believe the results. The stuff is obviuosly caustic but it is my secret weapon for the bathroom.

MatNanPlus · 31/10/2008 19:44

Moshie, a lot of grouts react to thick bleach by going orange tinged, thin bleach is ok tho.

Thanks everyone!

Queenofallwildthings - my mum is mrs clean and I get totally paranoid when she comes to stay.

Am currently scrubbing house from top to bottom and just popped on to check for all your handy hints.

I've put more bleach on this morning but it's hardly made a difference.

I live in the original mouldy house and Lakeland make a fortune out of me! I can heartily recommend a snazzy little electric toothbrushy thing (but sort of industrial) on the old black grout......

hercules1 · 01/11/2008 14:30

We tried everything suggested here and in the end had to get someone in to redo the silicone.

Mix bleach with sodium bicarbonate to make a stiff gritty paste, paste on all the grout and leave for at least an hour.
When you rinse off it will be as good as new.
