ds shoes stink - can't wash in machine - any sprays work?

they smell like cat wee- but I'm sure his last ones smelled the same - so not actually cat wee then.

They are shiny - so am presuming can't go in the machine.

Any really strong sprays work - or should I just buy new shoes?

apparently if you put bicarb in it takes the smell away, just remember to hoover it out before he wears them

Lakeland sell something called Grannys Remedy or similar??

TracyK · 24/10/2008 15:37

what - just dry bicarb from the tub?

apparently so, it absorbs the odour. got to be worth a try - cheaper than new shoes

RiallyEeRiaee · 24/10/2008 15:41

you probably h ave to leave it a while/overnight?

forevercleaningwithmybesoms · 24/10/2008 15:49

tracey - had exactly the same problem about smelling of cat wee this week. It was in Ds football boots. i have put them in disinfectant overnight. as they were drying the smell was even worse. Then soaked them in washing powder for a day and they still stink. I have sprayed perfume into them and yes, they still stink!

forevercleaningwithmybesoms · 24/10/2008 15:50

will try the bicarb option right now. Is that the same as baking powder? Not sure what i have in the depths of my cupboard!

RiallyEeRiaee · 24/10/2008 16:37

I'm not sure if bicarb is one of the ingredients of baking powder?

forevercleaningwithmybesoms · 24/10/2008 16:43

right i have found in the depths of my cupboard a pot of baking powder and a pot of cream of tarter!

Of course when i opened them the ingredients bit of the label has come off so cannot see if either of them contain bicarb.

So to be on the safe side i am going to put some of each into the football boot, and see what happens.

I may be outed on MN this weekend if anyones ds play football and see a child running around in a white cloud of dust, you will know who i am

RiallyEeRiaee · 24/10/2008 19:03

hoover them first!!!! (I am speaking from experience, it goes all horrible and soggy)

glitterchick · 26/10/2008 10:24

My DS1 & DS2 both have stinking runners (cats wee smell). Wouldnt mind but spent bloody fortune on them in Sept - they are Geox. I have wash, soaked and scubbed and they still stink. I will try the whole bicarb thing first though. What a waste of money.

yes, bicarb, plenty of it.

Smittals · 27/10/2008 14:15

I've cured stinky sandals a few times by pouring surgical spirit on to the insole, spreading it round then pouring off the excess. Worked a treat - I think it's bacteria causing the horrible stink and the s. spirit kills them off?

TracyK · 27/10/2008 14:48

I have put bicarb in them and left them on the sunny window ledge to dry out. The whole kitchen now smells of wee! I hope it's working.

I have to tell you that it may not be your childrens feet - my dd and ds both have football boots and trainers that smell of cat wee - they are NIKE - I have found that this is sooooo common and Nike don't want to acknowledge it. I have even emailed watchdog. This is the link www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/nike-c80941.html

I used to put a load of baby powder - bought for the purpose - in stinky shoes, and leave at least overnight.
