Help! I nearly vomitted on finding a slug trail on the playroom carpet this morning.

Any tips to get rid of the filthy bastard(s). No slug was found.

The trail went back to the hole where the radiator pipe comes through the floor and it probably got under the floor via an airbrick from the outside.

I am putting a beer-trap outside and pellets (at the front of the house where kids won't go).

Anyone else had this problem or know how to use the beer trappy thing.

If you want to feel really sick look up "slug sex" on You Tube- from David Attenborough's prog. Their insides come out and wrap around eachother's.

I don't know what houses you all live in but we live in victorian terrace and we have billions of the buggers. They come up from the foundations, when I see them I evict immediately (scooped up on edge of junk mail and tossed into the street) but then a week later, baby ones will appear.
I hate them.
Salt is the only thing that works.
We have sealed all floors etc but still they appear.
My DH saw one come up through the floorboards in his words 'like a tongue'.

I heard on radiio, there a population explosion this year.

I'd rather have slugs than mice (which we also ahd last year)..

geraldinetheluckygoat · 20/10/2008 21:53

victorian terrace here too, next to a river, with very over grown field at back of garden.....

Yes I think i would rather slugs too, mice deffo worse!

feeling suddenly smug in my (nearly) vermin free '70s house

mabanana · 21/10/2008 00:14

Oh I get this in my kitchen. Giant disgusting orange and black ones (vomit) Just thank your lucky stars you didn't tread on one in your bare feet. I screamed so loudly dh came running in in a panic!
Agree, put loads of salt where the pipe comes up and clear away any dead leaves from near walls. This has been a terrible year for slugs. The bastards are everywhere. It's like a nightmare.

The barrier spray which keeps ants out (my particular bugbear - I can't stand them) also works for slugs - basically you spray it around all gaps (so I go all the way round the skirting boards, plus doors, pipe holes, etc) and anything which touches it dies - it lasts for months.

this stuff

stealthsquiggle · 21/10/2008 00:47

Now would anyone like to tell me how I get rid of the flies which ignore the zapper and fly off laughing when I spray them ?

geraldinetheluckygoat · 21/10/2008 15:09

that sounds great! Going to try a spray/tape combo....
Ummmm on the flies, get a pet frog to eat them??

CoffeeCrazedMama · 21/10/2008 15:39

Our poor guinea pigs have them crawling into their hutch and munching on their food. Caught one in the act the other day, revolting thing - poor old piggy was sitting next to the bowl looking utterly disgusted!

stealthsquiggle · 21/10/2008 17:16

CCM - if your guinea pigs' hutch is on legs you could put the copper tape which someone else mentioned around the legs to stop the slugs getting up - it is quite effective but we would need miles of it to protect the house...

jellybeans · 21/10/2008 17:24

They are gross, we had them at our two old houses. The first, I used to skid accross the floor on them when half asleep and going into the kitchen. The were up the walls and everywhere on a daily basis. The next house, there were slug trails accross the lounge carpet every morning. Couldn't see where they came in, think salt worked in the wall cracks/skirting. Have had mice too, gross also.
