Um ... how do I clean football kit?

DS1 went to a football party, and a classmate loaned him an England kit, and shin pads, and socks, the whole deal. I want to make sure I return it all in top condition - do I wash the shin pads?

no. The velcro, if they have velcro will stick to everything else. Just pop them outside to air while the weather is fairly decent so they don't stink when you return them. & whatever you do, don't leave them cooped up somewhere warm like under the stairs like my oh does with his!!!! They will STINK your house out.

I'd put some washing up liquid on any muddy bits & give it a bit of a scrub in and wash on a 40C wash with plenty of detergent.

None of it is muddy, it was an indoor football party.

Do I wash the kit just with normal clothes? It's red + white, is it likely to run? Or should I handwash to be safe?

I don't think any of it is that sweaty. I'll air out the shin guards - I was worried about the plastic/fabric joins anyway.

Thanks, I really don't 'do' football, so it's all foreign, and as it's someone else's kit, I want to be sure to take proper care of it!

oh, in that case I would just pop it in on it's own just in case it does run. I find with my oh's team kits that the shorts are a slightly darker colour & need washing on their own (as a full team kit or in with darks) as they do run a little.

But, if it's an oldish kit I would just pop the kit in the washer on it's own on a quick cycle if not muddy.

LOL@ don't 'do' footy. Neither do I, just the washing for 20 sweaty smelly blokes on a Sunday afternoon as most of them & their dp's or dw's are useless & the old one got wrecked.

Dunno how old it is, it looks pretty shiny.

Nobody in this house plays footy. I climb, and take the kids kayaking, oh, and I bike and run (and surf and waterski, when possible). But none of these sports involve shinguards or alarming-coloured synthetic clothing ...

lol, wow! That's an impressive list NQC, I'm not very sporty at all. Just get lumbered with the washing for oh's stuff

I know what you mean about alarming colours, oh's latest kit is pale blue with white & some dark blue in there as well. So glad it didn't run when I washed it for the first time last week . . . took a hell of a lot of washing to get it looking decent again though

How did it come out in the end?
