Wood Burner / Stoves - what make would you recommend...

I am hoping to purchase one of these in the next week and would really value some advise on what make/brand to go for. We live in a built up area so will have to use smoke free fuel - I would also like a contemporary design.

I had a rep come out today from the local fire shop, he recommended the Stovax - one poster on here loves it and another poster prefers her other make. Has anyone else got any experience of this brand?

The stovax lights well and doesn't blow smoke back into the room. Although that could be the direction of the wind, the good chimney etc.

It stays in all night, no bother. It is very quick and easy to clean.

The glass stays clear.

It's easy to regulate the flames using the controls.

I don't know, its all boxed in so can't see the name. I think its a company from Norway that made it. I have a friend in Ireland who sells them I'll ask whats a good name.

We have Charnwood - probably one of the cheapest makes but it shows! Heats brilliantly but glass doors get filthy and rope type seal coming away. Also occasionally getting room full of smoke but fitter can't find anything wrong (and it's not the chimney). Has saved a lot of money on gas and when it gets really cold I load it up and run it overnight so I come downstairs to a lovely cosy house. Only problem is I don't want to go to work then!

In case anyone is still monitoring this thread with a view to buying a stove: DON'T BUY A STOVAX (or a Yeoman - which is a brand of Stovax). we had a CL8 installed a month ago. cost nearly £1000 for the stove. Installer fitted it and the door wouldn't shut properly. It's still not right, pops open when lit, only DH can slam it shut (so the stove has shifted and the fire cement cracked) and Stovax couldn't care less. don't return calls. warranty registration page on their website doesn't work either at the moment. Our fitter says he is on the edge of declining to fit any more, 4 out of 5 have this door problem - says they used to be good but have grown very fast and let go of customer service. Grrrrr.

I am really happy with my Stovax! Not sure which model though.

Agree with Bunpea, Stovax or Yeoman CL8 brands are very disappointing, we have never been able to get any heat out of our Stovax since installed. The dealer has washed their hands of the issue dispute multiple requests to sort it, Stovax themselves are also apathetic. We have had four previous wood burners and this is the worst. I've asked for our money back as it refuses to even light properly let alone give off any heat comparable to the brochure. Tech support guy even said to me "never beleive the brochure, it's made up!"....

stovax/yeomans cl8 boiler stoves are rubbish and dangerous. I bought one in feb 2012 and had it replaced the next one the door isn't right and lets a lot of air in and you can't turn it down and gets to nearly blowing. There is also an air flap on the back which is not right. I would definitely say stay away from this fire
